(As far as I can tell...)

The 1230 superceded the 1250 model, which is now out of production. Basically, the 1230 will be newer, but the same otherwise.

I think the 1250 has a curb side option that allows you to feed brush from the yard which is much safer than dragging into the street to feed it.
My first chipper was side feed and I liked the convienence of feeding from the yard, its faster and less area to clean up. Hope this helps.

Both thosse things are what I could tell. It seems like looking at used equipment some years you could buy either. I'd assume the curbside is more prone to clogging?? If so is the 1250 a bad choise if the price is right?? I guess if it swivels you wouldn't have to use it that way...

I have 1 vermeer 1230 and 4 Brush Bandits. the vermeer has caused me nothing but problems. The engine blew up 25 hours after the warrenty was up, the machine bogs down or clogs up on anything over 8 inches ,where the bandits eat anything u feed it . I dont think i will ever buy another vermeer chipper and dont recommend them at all. has anyone else had problems?

Bottlefed. If there is a title available then -great it shows legal ownership but, as you say most states do not require licensing on chippers (leave off the evil, socialist east and left coasts). Unless you have fear about the machine not actually belonging to the seller then a bill of sale is all you need. (Even if it is stolen a bill of sale protects you-you are just a victim- but the property goes back to the rightful owner)

bottle, the "curb feed" pivots the whole chipper on the tongue to point the infeed towards- well, the curb. It makes no difference as far as clogging goes.
I love the 1250.

Well, I may be getting a 99 1250. Perkins diesel, though I don't know which one, I think there were more than one available. 1800 hours, new tires, newer knives, all fluids and filters recently changed, he wants $9000 from what I can find, a decent deal, right?? This will be the first I've personally owned, so I will probably have some questions in the following months. Thanks for the help thus far.

Philly - wierd your experience. The last established co. I worked for bought us 2 new trucks and 2 brand new chippers for a giant job we did, took us 2 months. anyhow, we had a new vermeer and a new brush bandit. Don't know the models, but they were both big. Anyway, vermeer never skipped a beat, and the bandit was in the shop almost the whole time... Guess you never know, I hope if I get this one it isn't a bunch of headaches.

Thanks again

Sounds about right.

Myself, I LIKE the vertical rollers; they don't clog up. They're HUGE so even big pieces stuff right in without having to grab a lever to open the rollers up. The curb feed is MINT. I like the feed table a little higher.

But again, JMHO.

FWIW, my 1250 has the same motor as my Whisper; the Ford 6cyl gas.
