What’s happening with this maple?

I’m seeing these cracks in the bark of my 6 year old maple. This is in Arkansas. They are in the front yard, the house faces East and the cracks are in the side facing the house - so I guess the part that gets the least sun. Is this some type of frost related damage? Is there anything to be done for the existing damage or anything to do to prevent more?

Not typical for frost crack. You should be fine. I'd look towards an animal or kids with a sharp tool.
