heres my old 372 tank there was nothing in this hole when i got the saw. it sure looks like something belongs in there. anyone know?? thanks, Mike

There isn't anything that goes in that opening. There's a stop screw that goes through the case and the end of it protrudes into that opening to keep the saw from flexing too much.

I Thought maybe it was a Locating hole for Manufacturing, For proper placement of the other tapped holes.

Exactly what I was going to say. They have similar spots on my 394, i couldn't figure out why the tank wouldn't come out even when I had all the anti-vibe mounts unbolted... Then I found those stop screws. If your hard on the saw put a decent amount of hard silicone in those holes, otherwise they rub through and create a leak. I had to epoxy 2 holes closed because of them (previous owner must have dropped it a few times). I epoxied them closed and put a nice thick coat of silicone in there, now the bolts act just like anti-vibe mounts themselves.

Its just a relief for a bolt that threads in from the handlebar mount to the motor. Its not meant to hold anything but it will keep the tank from coming out if you leave the bolt in.

Like McCall said, if you want to be really safe about that exposed bolt, you can do some fancy stuff with that hole. You can take a 5/8" hole saw, saw out a "plug" from a hockey puck, and slice a piece it to fit the depth of the hole. The inner drill bit "hole" will fit right over the end of that bolt that protrudes into the hole on the tank. That will be more durable than the silicone idea. This method is going above and beyond, but if you are anal like some of us, you will find creative ways to make things. Not necessary, I believe, but what can it hurt?

I have made quite a few annular buffers for Stihl saws out of hockey pucks and hole saws.

99 cent hockey pucks can make 3 annular buffers... A lot stiffer than the real deal, but a lot cheaper when scrounging for parts.

ok good to know. what i ended up doing today was using the cnc router at work today to cut a 5/8 chunk of phenolic countertop. i put that in there and drilled out the center a bit but not all the way. that way teh bolt dosent rub on the tank. i do like the puck idea. might actually do a little anti vibe also that way.

while im on the 372 topic, i get a fair amount of vibes fron the top of the handle. is that the norm for a 70cc saw with a woodland pro rc chain? im used to a 455 with the same chain.

what would make it vibe? maybe ill swing by the delaer tomorrow and see what he thinks. it really does run very well, though i havent ran it any real length of time yet. maybe 20 mins at a time so far.

Are you running a brand new chain? Around here, alot of the guys take off more of the rakers when running a smaller bar on a larger saw; throws huge chips, cuts fast but gives a little more vibration.
