What kind of wood is on my stairs?

We bought a home and are refinishing the stairs. I need to replace the top stair and need to know what kind of wood to buy. I can't tell what kind it is!!

Any advice is appreciated.

EWelcome to As! But in answer to your question this forum is more dedicated to helping homeowners with tree issues. The pros that frequent this forum usually need a look at the bark and a couple of leaves for a good id.

There is a great milling forum on here that might help you better.

Having said that, looks like maple to me.

Test it by seeing if the early wood (lighter colored part) is significantly softer than the late wood (darker colored lines). You should even be able to tell with your finger nail.

I concur, Southern Yellow Pine , and you can find pre made stair treads at any quality lumberyard or home improvement store.
