What Part Of A Rebuild Do You HATE Most?

Accidentally “sproinging” a recoil spring. You know the sound... “spROING!” Makes me swear like a sailor and consider throwing the saw.

On my rebuilds, I always disassemble and clean the recoil starter, including the spring, giving it a wipe down with WD-40. The key is a constant two finger pressure on the spring (like 9 and 3 o'clock), only lifting one finger at a time when the spring is wound under that spot and immediately replacing pressure. After the first few turns - where most of the sproinging takes place - it gets easier. Much harder for me to do are the ones with the metal cups because the cups seem shallower than the starter housing groove and you have to make a close guess how much to leave the hook sticking out, since the assembly only fits in one way. Once it's wound, it's difficult to impossible to adjust.
