Hello - I live in Michigan. My white birch tree was damaged by some kids who peeled back huge sections of the bark (see pictures). I was always told to only trim this tree during winter. My question is do I need to do anything to protect this tree from insects now that the bark has been removed - I treat it every year in the spring with Bayer tree and shrub granules or liquid concentrate. Any advice is appreciated. Thanks.

This looks like they did not peel the bark all the way down to the cambial tissue which is good. I would consider painting the area using white latex paint. This is the same product recommended for sunscald protection. It might just be a cosmetic issue.

You are already treating the tree with an insecticide so that is fine.

I would also have a discrete talk with a couple of parents.

Sylvia
