Yellow fungus on a tree???

I have a tree that has a yellow fungus growing near the base.It looks like its pouring out of the tree but its not.I think the tree is an ash tree??? What is the yellow stuff?

Good link, I've never seen them type.

Has a go at living and dead, it's a bad guy but apparently edible. Tastes like chicken they reckon, so, maybe we'll find out?
