Customer came in with a 441 that had blow the after market top end with a big score threw the plating 1cm long running up to the transfer but not crossing the stato port. Piston was marked to match, no ring damage. He purchased another 441 kit, we put it in together tonight. We rinsed the bottom end, the bearing looked and felt sound and turned smoothly, piston facing the correct direction, caber rings and we reasembled. It spun smoothly with no plug. Started up nice, ran 5 seconds and locked up. Tore it appart, same matching score, rings were perfect. Both times no objects found in case or cylinder. I suspected sharp port edges on the piston but the cylinder had a nice bevel so that did not ad up. When comparing both after market to top end the duration between the strato and transfers were different by .050. Any one had and issue like this? cheap aftermarket stuff? I can't find a meteor top end and the NWP is on back order. Input anyone?
