How many saws before it is considered CAD?????(038 AV came today)

My FIL has a blown up 038 Super he kept telling me I could have. He said the crank was bad and the piston and cylinder was toast too. So I bought a good super crank case with P&C from ebay and of coarse the P&C was toast too but shipping it back I would just be out more money so I held on to it...When it came down to it he would not even sell it to me..I think he thinks after awhile I will just give in and fix it for him. So I had to find one on my own...

Anyway I found one of the older 038 AV metal tank on ebay and won the auction so here it is....

Now it is better then I hoped for..It fired right off with some fresh mix. Cylinder and piston look new. I think this thing sat for most of it's life...I noticed whats left of a farm boss decal on the clutch cover. Is there any significance to that???

Now I have a few questions about the clean up what can go in the dishwasher and what can't???

I do not want to strip the whole saw down to clean it but I would like to remove as mush as I can from the nooks and cranny's....

Now again how many saws before you have to admit to CAD??? This is only the third I will own up to and a forth is supposed to on it's way..

    Thanks!!!!!

Southbound, i too am building an 038av for my boss. I was the last saw that his dad bought new. They have been in the logging and sawmilling business since 1950. Thought it might be a nice gesture to build it for him. Totally stock and all new parts. The saw ran, but he wanted it to look like new. Thanks to Balieys for the parts. Had everything, couldnt believe it. Right now its at the sandblaster. Next stop paint. If at all possible i will post pics of the finished product. Should be sweet.

I have to admit my recent purchase of the MS211 was CAD.

I didn't really need the saw, as I could get by with the 361/192T combination.

Sure I was taking more risk using the 192T on smaller ground jobs, rather than pulling out the 361, but I was careful.

I can also make a case the 211 does a much better job than the 192T as the cut gets over 6".

However, I will admit I need help. Where do I sign up to see the Doc?

With as many posts as you have on here, you're WAAAYY deep in CAD already. Might as well buy another dozen or so to make it official

I too bought this for no good reason... I heat with wood and I collect all my own firewood. I am on my third season burning and have not paid for a stick yet...The MS 290 got new wow I guess it has been three years now is really all I need...The 031 AV I just fixed up and got running was just a lark and then the 038 super fiasco with my FIL lead me to buy this one...The hardest one I for me to justify will be my next. A friend asked if I had any left over 031 parts I said I did and asked what he needed. He want a rear handle for his dads 031. I was gonna tell him I had one and would just give it to him even swap it out for them if they wanted when he told me he would give me a old but running 066 for it...I have yet to see the 066 but I trust this fellow so the deal is forth coming...He told me they got it right but it was too much saw for what they do and it has been sitting for some time.....I just have to trade for it

So far I just clean them a little and run them. I think it will be all over for me when I start painting and putting them on shelf's....Although they do tend to stay in here with me. You know just for the cold months....

Those old 038's are a great saw!! I have a mag tank 038 that I want to get together soon too. Keep us updated on the project!

As far as what constitutes CAD......I think of it as more of a state of mind than actual numbers. It's when your eyes dart around the room when you're in a saw shop looking for basket cases under benches and all you can think of are yard sales and auctions with one intent in mind.....MORE SAWS!!!
I was innocently logging trees to build a home site....Suddenly I'm a sawaholic!!:
