Chain Brake Guard for Sachs-Dolmar 120 Super?

WTB Chain Brake Hi, I am looking for a chain brake assembly to add to my sachs dolmar 120 with wrap around handle. I have seen 120si covers with brakes, but it looks like the 120 cover is ready for a chain brake to be bolted on. Can anybody supply these? I have also seen in the IPL there is an...

Milling with 028AV Super or Husky 257

Thanks for your comments, everyone. I think I will stick with the 257. I have access to .050 bars, and I like the idea of using 3/8 pitch. I had assumed that a .325 with high RPMs would mill well, but I agree about the pain of sharpening all those teeth. I'll try it out and report back...

Milling with 028AV Super or Husky 257

So I am considering doing some hobby milling, alaskan style, and the most likely candidates from my saw cache are the Husky 257 and Stihl 028AV Super. Does anybody have any experience with these saws, or suggestions otherwise? I would probably mostly mill white pine, but may be interested in...

    Reputable saw tech in NH

Can anyone recommend a reputable shop near southern NH, even Eastern ME or Boston area, that can clean up a 346xp cylinder? Is there a thread out there that lists reputable shops in different states? That would be good to know about. Thanks

Husq Cylinders - 346xp NE vs. OE vs. 353

Maybe this isnt it, but the NE has a primer bulb...that's about the only thing I can think of. Oh, and that shiny plastichrome cover is made out of dark matter. :monkey:

Husq Cylinders - 346xp NE vs. OE vs. 353

Cool, maybe I'll do that, just stick with the OE. Thanks man!

Husq Cylinders - 346xp NE vs. OE vs. 353

Were you in the room when I wrote that? My god that was a fast response. So it is the P & C that make it higher RPMs, then? Maybe I'll go with the OE 346xp kit, if that's all I can find.

Husq Cylinders - 346xp NE vs. OE vs. 353

So I am trying to rebuild an OE 346xp, but lately I have been running 2 NE 346xps and would love to put that 50cc on the OE bottom end (which has no primer bulb and I prefer the feel of) So, I can't seem to find a 346xpNE jug, but I was told a 353 cylinder and piston kit is the exact same, or...

Pressure/Vacuum test on Crankcase w/scored piston

If you use the muffler bolts, isnt there a couple of inches of space between the head of the bolt and the plate, where the muffler used to be? How do you keep the plate from popping off? EDIT: Okay, I think Ive got it. Still not getting any pressure or vacuum, but I feel more confidant about...

Pressure/Vacuum test on Crankcase w/scored piston

So what do people like to use to block off intake and exhaust? Rubber hose as a gasket and a fabricated metal plate? Husky or Stihl specific "tool"? What other suggestions are out there? Also, if you are bolting something to the exhaust port, without the muffler, would you use different...

Pressure/Vacuum test on Crankcase w/scored piston

I did have the rubber manifold boot excluded, I'll have to back up the blocker to between it and the carb. Thanks for the suggestions!

Pressure/Vacuum test on Crankcase w/scored piston

Sounds good, i'll try again today. Exactly what type of "fluid" would you recommend?

Pressure/Vacuum test on Crankcase w/scored piston

That's what I thought (about the piston having nothing to do with it) I tried both vac and pressure with the mityvac, Im familiar with the top pressure nozzle, but I couldnt get any readings either way. How many pumps with that little guy should I expect before I get to 9mm/Hg, or whatever...

Issues with my new Husky 346XP

One more thing Oh, and the clutch drum needle bearing doesn't need a grease gun...you have to take the drum off and apply it by hand. I never found the stuff specifically for husky, but stihl makes a little orange and white tube of it, I think its just white lithium grease.

Issues with my new Husky 346XP

I work with interns who pull the cover off of those type of Huskys all the time, without disengaging the chain brake, its a major PITA, and I am always the one to have to fix it. Im sure there is a sweet tool they make that fits perfectly into that triangular piece and makes it easy, but I...

Pressure/Vacuum test on Crankcase w/scored piston

Hi Everybody, So I've been reading as many posts as I can about Vac and Pressure testing, and I still have a few questions. But first, here is why I am testing this saw. My 346xp (1998 model, orange cover) was killed by a coworker...it had good compression when it left the shop, and the...

Husky 346xp bar nuts jumping off

Well, like I said, I do tighten them more than finger tight, I use the scrench and crank em down, but they still come off, and it never happens on my 257 or my 55 or my 028 super...just the 346xp(s). And one of them spits out a chain brake bolt about once a week, and its not missing a washer...

Husky 346xp bar nuts jumping off

Hi, I have 3 Husqvarna 346xps at my job, 2 are 2008s (silver clutch cover), and 1 from 2001. They all seem to be very good at rattling the bar nuts off, far more frequently than I've ever seen on any other saw. The older one likes to loosen up and spit out the chain brake bolt on the...
