    Boy Scouts and tree climbing?

Here's an update with a message that I've put on some other sites that I'm also a member of: Don't know how many of you all are familiar with the Boy Scouts National Jamboree however for the first time the National Jamboree, that is held every 4 years, will NOT be at Fort AP Hill in VA...

    Boy Scouts and tree climbing?

sgbeans-now that you say something I seem to remember reading about that too....I'm thinking there were even some pics of the tree that failed. I'll do some digging too and see if I can find anything. In the meantime here's a video about some of the Bechtel Summit zipline construction-any...

    Boy Scouts and tree climbing?

Thanks for the background Peter!! Some of this information you gave I had heard about in some shape or form however I didn't know that TCI had been one of the contacts. Hopefully with all of the interest in tree canopy tours and ziplines, along with BSA adopting ACCT standards, we will see...

    Boy Scouts and tree climbing?

Sorry Treeseer-guess I did forget to put any exact dates down. Right now my staffing dates run from July 11 to 25, 2013. That puts me there before the actual Jamboree starts so that on site training can be done. You can also elect to do half sessions but I've heard those people will be used...

    Boy Scouts and tree climbing?

Hey all! It's been awhile since I've visited the site. Have had some changes in job status over the last couple of years and now hardly ever get up in a tree (other than to deer hunt:rolleyes2: ) I do still maintain my ISA certification though. The one thing that has remained constant over...

    Mitts and Merrill contact #?

Thanks Steve! That figures though-they are the closest of the two so I think we were going to get some from them. Hopefully we'll be getting rid of this M&M in the next year or sooner so may not need a whole lot of knife to get us through until then.

    Jacking a leaning spruce

What about a 3:1 or better pulling system (Z-Rig) anchored to the smaller pine for the initial pull? Once you have it past the opposite lean it is not much different than any other tree that is already coming over.

    Mitts and Merrill contact #?

Thanks Guys! We'll contact them and see what can be done since they don't appear to be an "in stock" item anymore.

    Mitts and Merrill contact #?

OK OK OK I know I haven't been on here in quite awhile (surprised I even remembered my login!!) but our computer fun at work has been drastically curtailed. We've still got an old M&M "chuck &duck" here that we are trying to find knives for but can't find the size we need (M12) and I'm having...

    American Chestnut

The tree in West Lafayette that PUclimber talked about was kind of hidden until I found it again and sent an email to the ACF. One of my old forestry professors remembered it being there after I said something to him about(G. Parker in case your wondering PU). I know that ACF was in here last...

    Helmet communications?

Thanks JPS and Jo! I had also sent an email to Petzl since we use the Ecrin Roc for our safety zone work. I got a response back from them which if I can still remember how to C&P I'll try to add on here: Hello, Thanks for the question regarding our Ecrin helmets. I am sorry to say we...

    Helmet communications?

I know-I haven't been in here for awhile but I'm still around just haven't been doing any posting here. But I got a question that I figure someone here can answer. Do any of you have two way radios mounted for use in your helmets? If so what kind and where did you get them? Yeah I know that...

Handsaw neck injury 12-05-06 Warning, graphic pics

Hey Savage-I thought the "handle" looked familiar. Good to see you found this site too. Danf and I have spent some time in here also. Thanks for posting what you did, there is always room to learn from someone elses mistakes. If you and Treemachine ever decide on a time and place let Dan and...

Leg nearly severed by a stump grinder

I finally got to meet Jim at our ISA meeting the beginning of Feb. Just to let you know that he is doing well and had a smile on his face before I ever introduced myself. He showed me his leg and even after ten years of being an EMT a while back it still gave me the shivers to see it all...
