    The Beg for Manuals Thread

Man I would really appreciate one of those super-secret service manuels for a KM130R, if possible.

    What was your worst injury?

ripped the very tip of my right middle finger off in a e-bike sprocket, that happened one year ago

The Danger of Climbing With Unsheathed Blades

There's a handsaw made by jameson that goes into a standard jameson or marvin pole. Below that is an adapter I made to go from a female jameson end to the end of a Hastings hot stick.

    Big climber help.

A SRT-RADS system is good for big guys. Ask me how I know. You can build one relatively cheap using a grigri, with prussik/biner instead of a hand ascender, and a footloop.

    Best poles for big shot?

The proverbial ten-foot pole works best for me, a six and a four. Pros: better ergonomics (e.g., no wet knees) , and you might get some more stroke out of it for higher max range. Cons: might be a little difficult to nock the throwbag if you're vertically-challenged.

    Got some gear, gonna climb...

That's a painful way to learn how to climb with the old 4D torture harness and those little gaff pads. I strongly concur with the need for a second flipline. A 2 in 1 lanyard is useful... Always tie in twice when making a cut. Anyway, good on you for learning...

    big climber

I started climbing three years ago at age 43 weighing 255 lb at five foot ten tall....I liked it so much, it provided inspiration for me to lose 25 more lb.

I'm going to go out on a limb and call this a case of criminal negligence on part of the hack 'fiancee'...

Woman seriously injured, struck by falling tree in Cincinnati

News says she was pulling the dead tree with a rope tied around her waist, but the tree pulled her into the path .... http://www.wlwt.com/news/person-seriously-hurt-when-tree-falls-on-them/32888376 So tragic yet totally avoidable.

Does anybody have a serious disease or affliction from arboriculture?

I am guessing more than a few folks here may have contracted Lyme disease. It can be nasty sometimes, developing into a chronic condition. Skin cancer would be another hazard but that's fairly preventable. The random nature of cancer itself is going to- by far -outweigh any effect from...

Openly admitting being an "amateur" + free gear = good idea or irresponsible?

LOL... first time I've ever seen a vid of a guy face-planting the top of a stem in first person perspective. I've seen a few of this guy's vids before this and some of them are interesting. He should have done more research on how to use the rigging gear , but common sense would dictate that...

    Most comfortable climbing saddle?

I climb a bosun seat Edge and being on the top-heavy side I most of the time wear a Petzl Voltige chest harness too . The combination of the two is comfortable enough I could probably hang in it in open space all day long without much discomfort, if I had to. Before the Edge I used one of the...

Where do I find basic info/advise/a book title from experienced with "level heads"

Fundamentals of General Tree Work by Beranek is an excellent resource. Available from Treestuff in paperback for a very reasonable price.

    Boots

I got two years of hard, everyday service out of these 16 in.Thorogoods http://www.wesspur.com/boots/thorogood-16inch-boots.htm I will soon get them resoled. The only problem I had with them was the laces needed to be replaced every month or so.

    Tie in for repositioning

An idea worth mentioning would be Ligering. With those rigging paws your attachment options increase, being able to clip directly into the paws or run dual rope bridges. Aside from that, two large rings on your webbing bridge sounds like a winner.

    Zig Zag safety

If there's enough concern about a piece of gear failing, to warrant employment of contingency measures, it should be retired. Just sayin' Also, the metal edges chafing on your little feelgood loop in a shock load situation are going to decrease it's capacity greatly.

Treestuff knows how to treat you right

Everytime I order from them they throw in something nice extra. They're an excellent outfit to do business with.

How many knots do you really need to know?

Daisy chain hasn't been made mention of yet, I believe. I chain any 1/2 inch or smaller line that doesn't have it's own bag- it stows away neat and usually pays apart with a minimum of tangles. Works well for minding lanyards, too. Also, double figure eight is bomber for an SRT canopy cinch in...
