I've seen no historically documented reason to go to those efforts. Do you do this with the crank still installed?

On a 346 cylinder you don't get the flat spot on the bottom of the intake if you mill the case.

good point, but honestly I haven't milled a 346xp yet ... just the 350's risers. so who knows what will happen if I mill the case on the 346xp.

In small saws I totally disagree, you want to see 210psi or more IMHO.

I was able to assemble a chainsaw from the box of parts that Matt sent me, lol. Once all the parts were back together, it very much resembled the saw I mailed out a week ago

So, I set about to see how much difference the 357 intake tract made. I can only go off cut times. I have no idea how that would reflect to actual HP changes. The powerband was still the same. However, cut times were about 8.6% better with the 357 parts. I would love to see how that translates to HP on the dyno, but unfortunately, that's not exactly practical with the distance between us.

Disclaimer: The tune is rather lean on both of these. I have found that the 346XP, more than any other model, really leans out as it gets hot. By the time I was through the cuts, it was definitely on the lean side. I would not recommend running your saws this lean on a regular basis.

Brad, so this is just adding the 357 boot, tract, and carb?

Boot, flange, carb, filter base, and filter. Don't look up carb from the 357 IPL. Instead, search for a Zama C3EL42. They're only $43 that way.

Here's the cylinder from the 340 on my 346. The new improved porting I tried on this cylinder is definitely stronger than what I've been doing to the 346. This video is in different wood, so cut times can't be compared with the 340.

Small displacement saws don't require that much force even with high compression.

From what we've all seen I think it's safe to say the 346 and 372 make the most PH when ported, than any other modern saws.

Well there was that 461 from Chadhilman's dyno that made some crazy HP too!
