Interested in buying a MS361 to use along with an 026 (about 15 years old) 16" and MS440 (about 4 years old) 20" and 25" bars. Can I use MS440 chains and bars on the MS361. I have a number of bars and chains full skip, 1/2 skip, etc. The plan will then be 026, 16"; MS361, 20"; and MS440, 25".

I cut about 20 cords or word a year to heat with a fireplace and woodstove. All hardwood from 26 acre woodlot, Ash, Oak, Hickory, Birch, etc. PA hardwoods. Up to 36" diameter.

Thanks for the help.

the MS361 is a great saw, and you will love it. also, as long as you have it set up for the same size chain the bigger bars you have will work.

The 361 is surely a fine saw, but I'm not sure why you'd want one when you already have a 440. I'd make the 440 the middle saw and add either a Dolmar 7900 or a Stihl 660 to the top end of your lineup. Hey and welcome to the site!

Unfortunately the MS440 is a bit bigger than I need. I need an operation on my right wrist and it is a bear to start. I may be better off with a new 026 pro, I have started the 026 for 15 years with no problems, but the MS440 kills my wrist for a few days solid after pulling it to start.

Want to sell the ms440?

Thanks for all the advice. But, no I don't want to sell it, I do get into some big stuff that I need the 440 for. Plus sometimes I can get a kid to start it for me, once it's running, no problem. If you are near Harveys Lake, feel free to borrow it.

hey when getting a new saw, get the easy 2 start on your new saw. it will be much eaasier on your wrist!

I was reading reply and thought you were going to say if your near Harveys Lake you can come by and start it for me. He he

I have to ask...are you using the decomp valve before starting? You probably are, Im sure. Oh, and does your 440 have the Elastostart cord? These will really help.

Yes, the elastostart is pretty slick. If you get a 361, you can have it installed on that as well.

If you are looking for a bad arse back-up saw the 361 would be sweet. The 026/361/440 plan is too close together. I have the same and don't use the 361 much. It's either small enough for the 026 or big enough for a 440/460.

Have you opened up the muffler on your 026?

:agree2: I was at my Stihl dealer the other day. He was showing a guy saws and discouraged ezstart. I figure its just more to go wrong.:)

Do what I do...I have tendonitis in the right elbow, so put a foot in the rear of the lower handle, push down on the front handle with the right hand, and pull with the left.
