I have my fix planned, and I will show it here. But I am open to suggestions.
The patient is a nice running Stihl 024.

But leaks a little oil when turned on its side..... I have no idea why...........

What would you guys do?????

I am wrapping up all my loose ends this weekend, so if you guys have any better idea for a fix, I would appreciate it.

My idea will likely work, but I want some other ideas. I have cleaned the
area affected for epoxy/etc, it needs done again.

Sounds like the check valve in the oil tank is clogged up.Is it building up pressure in the tank?
After running it loosen the oil cap and see if it still leaks.

Oh yeah nice hole !!

The best fix I can think of would be to split the cases and patch it from the inside with JBWeld. It would never leak again, ever!

Well I am a lot lazier than you......

I will post the pics soon, but I have other family business first....

As well as the first day of deer season tomorrow......

Any other ideas???

He was running Marvel Mystery Synthetic Bar Oil............

That is why the big hole.................

If it was just regular Marvel, there would have just been a crack..........

Fish,

What I would do if I wasnt going to split the case and patch from the inside out would be to cut a piece of fire screen that covers the hole and about a 1/4 inch extra on each side.

Then drill (either before or after) 2 very small holes on each side of the hole in the case. Holes small enuff you can put very small carb screws into. Small flat top ones like on the metering side of some tillotson carbs.

They dont have to be real tight just enuff to hold screen very flat and in place. Then JB weld good over all of the patch. Flatten good with toilet paper and make sure will still have clearance for the adjusting screw and pin to move freely.

That might work...

They must have tightened down the bar nuts without the adjuster pin being lined up with the hole in the bar.
Fish, I think one of the flip top caps might fit in that hole. With a hole that big, I would use some spark arrestor screen for reinforcement.

Won't the screen and epoxy push the chain adjuster out to far?

I think I'd have to split the case and fix from the inside also.Even if it's a big pain in the but.........

There is stihl some material to work with, eh?

Nothing wrong with some redneck/rigging, or other epithets/whatever.....

As long as it is a good repair......

If I don't get a deer in the morning, I will post my repair. Also I will post my Kessler saw leakdown test too.

I need to catch up with you guys

The Repair!!!!!

Alcohol psychosis occaisionally reaps some rewards.

I expect some major rep from you girls, since you won't send cash......

There is nothing wrong with "redneck" engineering, as long as it is a good fix...

Make this one sticky, as I cannot anymore, getting old, and so on.....

I expect you all to "connect the dots".....

The "jb weld finish"

OK girls, let's hear the "critique speak", tell me what a worthless "hack" I am.

Tell me what a "retard" I am.

Actually a "lazy baztard" would apply, as splitting the case for a customer,
that "don't want to spend a lot of money".... Is out of the question.

He will gladly pay an extra $20, if not, I will have an e-bay special....

But I am feeling a little fragile at the moment, so could "one" of you guys
say that this is a good idea???

I really need this.......

Good thinking.....although way outside the box.....looks like it should do the trick!!!
