Couldn't resist, especially after my dealer offered to switch out the .325 rim to 3/8 no charge. Non cat model. Bought powerhead only for $420+tax. I just got done ordering a 16" Windsor Speed Tip Mini Pro bar and some full chisel chain for it, should have her together and killing trees early next week. Rounds out my ultimate firewood combo/two saw plan of Husqvarna 346XP NE/372XP. I'm stoked! Now I have to start saving for an Iron & Oak 30 ton horizontal splitter.

Thanks mang! Peer pressure and all the good juju about the 346XP made me jump, not to mention the pending end of the chainsaw world 2010 regs around the corner. Had to get my toys while the getting was good.

Congrats. Hope you get some time and good weather to enjoy your new tools.

Woodshed, you gotta quit using the word "accidentally". It sounds too much like "accident". Your gonna attract Spacemule.:)

Technically it was an accident. I went in there looking at a larger zero-turn mower for the property we just bought. I picked up the 346XP NE as I walked by it (course of habit) and the guy mentioned he had a 3/8 rim to fit it. I had traded in my brand new 346XP because I really "needed" a 372XP and I wasn't a fan of the 18" bar/.325 safety chain combo that came with it. After a little haggling we arrived a nice guy price for just the powerhead and out the door I went. Much cheaper than buying the larger zero-turn that I went in to look at.

What is going to happen when 2010 rolls around ? Will all the manufacturers have to convert all the remaining non cat inventory over to cat at their own expense? That should make lots of work for the dealers.

hey wood, congrats on the new saw, what is your take on the 346 i am looking for a new saw, was thinking of a 50+cc saw as i just got rid of my 026 was thinking jonsered but i am not impressed with the mid cc line they have. dolmar is out as no dealers close, so it's either stihl or husky, i like the 346 but never ran one. how are they stock for power? and how do they take to mod's?

Yes congrats on the 346. My Husky dealer's distributer tried to talk me out of the 346XP and says I should just go to the 357XP. Not alot heavier and more jam. So I'm kind of stuck on this one.
So what is going to happen to all the non cat saws next year??

The problem with the 357XP is that you will always wonder what that extra $150 bucks could have bought you (372XP!). I condsidered just buying a 357XP at first but quickly decided that is was not big enough for big wood and bucking large rounds and too heavy to be a true limbing saw. I ended up buying the 372XP first as regs will kill this saw soon, it has been discontinued several times but it's time will be up as soon as 2010 rolls around. The time to buy a 346XP is now as non-cat models are still hanging around and the price hasn't risen for '09 yet. It is a killer little saw, revs to the moon and is very light and nimble. I t is not the most powerful 50cc saw (stock) as the Dolmar 5100S holds that title but the 346XP handles much better and mods easier. I wouldn't consider a Stihl saw in that cc range, your paying for mediocrity and the name, not performance. Sad but true.

Yes I bought a new 372XP last year too. Love the saw, should have replaced my old Stihl 044 years ago with it. I have an old 026 Stihl and its strong with a few mods. Still torn about the 357XP though, I'm not worried about cost. If I'm going have a lineup of saws in my toolbox I like each one to have a logical purpose. Guess I'll have to get a complete lineup of Huskys too. LOL:dizzy:

You do know that Jonsered makes a Red version of the 346NE in the 2153 don't you? Just make sure to lose the cat muffler and prepare to GRIN!

Right on perfect combo plan by my standards! :)

In the real world there are a 2lbs difference - but not in the specs......

There is much less weight difference and more power difference between the 357xp and the 372xp.

splain this statement to me. is the 357 heavier than list and less powerful or is the 372 lighter and more powerful than specked or is the 357 heavier and the 372 more powerful than it specs out??

How are you going to use the saw to cut grass?

I guess you will have to schedule another trip to the dealer to get the z-turn! Bummer! I hate when that happens!

Or, how are you going to use the saw to cut grass? :monkey: LOL
