OK, I got CAD real bad see. I bought another 044 today. It has the roller and 3/4 wrap, as well as the big dawg kit installed. The guy selling it really needed the money, and er, well, I was compelled to buy it. He asked me to take good care of it, as he only ran Stihl premix and super gas in it. I promised him I would, and I brought it home. I cleaned it up and other than some cosmetic stuff that needs fixing and a carb tune that I did (1/8 turn of the H screw), it runs like a raped ape.

So then I went over to a neighbor's who had a sign up saying take all the doug fir rounds that you want, and I ripped noodles (or curly fries) with it this afternoon. Its the dog's ballacks. I really like the huge spikes on it and the wider side plate for dumping noodles. I am going to order up an old style dual port muffler cover for it as well, and then see what it can really do modded out.

I will post photos here tomorrow of it buried in the rounds, but for now I will make this a poll for naming the 044. Other names and suggestoins accepted, this is just a sampeling of potential names.

Now you already know that you got a real good saw there, it don`t need a name to make it any more of a legend than what it already is. I have been running them for the past 15-16 years and they are my all around favorite saws . They are great stock but once you mod one you can`t stand to run one stock . Ported and muffler modded they handle so well that my bigger saws are only occasional use machines. IMO.

I think you should call it "Whirled Peas" Windthrown (if you haven't named a 361 that yet). Afterall you came up with that from my post in the "MS361 Facts" thread. LOL! If anyone ever asks why you call your 044 "Whirled Peas" you'll have an interesting story to tell them.

If I had a big bada$$ saw, I would call it "B.A." .... Short for BadA$$ AND Mr. T's name from the A-team (B.A. Baracus).

OK, here's hoping I find a BA saw for myself sometime soon.

Well, just look on CL, and there are a lot of bad a$$ saws out there lately for sale in the PNW.

Looks like my saw will be named "Blondie" after Clint Eastwood's Man with No Name movie series from the poll results so far.

The 044 is winning.

How about "Chip" or "Chipper".

I've never named my saws, but my 8yo and I were hanging out by the wood stove and I asked him if he wanted to pet my saws with me. I showed him the nice 044 and told him the one in the case was named "ugly". I told him we couldn't call him ugly once I opened the case, because we didn't want to hurt his feelings. I showed his the missing parts of the started housing, but explained that he could Stihl cut with the best of them! When we were looking at the 260 PRO, he asked what his name was and I came up with short tooth.

Never had a name for any of my saws before but with an 8yo in the house, any thing can happen, and usually does!

Guess I'll call the pretty 044, "OEM parts are expensive even at dealer cost."

I'll need a nick name for that one!:)

I would consider calling it "The new saw" until it outgrows that in a few weeks and then try "The 044".
But then, I am a traditionalist.:monkey:

If that isn't personal enough I'd call it "Betty"

Betty? Maybe I could put pin up stickers of hot babes in swim suits on either side of it, like they did on bombers during WWII, and call it Betty.

As for calling it The New Saw, I have 3 fairly 'new' saws. A 361, a 440 and this 044. My first 361 is called Milo after my orange cat. The 210 at the ex's is called the Wood Massager (Ian on AS named it The Saw from Hell). I called the 290 The Troll for a while, but its the 290 again.

I guess the 440 and the 044 can be differentiated by calling them the four-fourty and the Oh-fourty-four. My brother looked at it out in the shop and said, "I guess there is no having too many saws?" and then sauntered off. He likes having too much firewood.

How about "The Beave" like beaver, but shorter and cooler. What about "The Amazing Gasoline Powered Tree Felling And Bucking Machine" and you could write T.A.G.P.T.F.A.B.M. on the side in orange and silver glitter.
