....and it makes me sad. Every year I like to tithe to the gods of Mt. Husqvarna, but this dude at my dealer is making it difficult.

Went in to look at some saws and ask about a price on a NE346XP. To my amazement they didn't have squat for XP saws in there, one lone 372 and thats it. The rest of the wall was filled with the new 2xx and 4xx Huskies, probably to compete with Lowes and TSC. I asked him about the 346 and he was like, "the only XP we have is the 372, which is a bit bigger" without even mentioning that there was another XP between the 346 and the 372. Their selection of saws was sucky, and it's more of a mower/tool rental place than a saw shop.

So I get down to business and start talking money. He said the 346 with 16" or 18" bar was about $480 + tax, which I think is a bit steep. I also asked about having the cat muffler replaced with a non cat and he said he had never heard of anything like that and didn't even know what a cat muffler was!

I need to go back there and actually talk to the owner, the guy who sold me my 575 last year and see what kind of deal he wants to work out, if he can't knock more off the price maybe throw in some extras or sell me just the powerhead. It seems frustrating when I know more about a product than the guy thats selling it, esp. at a local servicing dealer. My Stihl dealer actually has his rectum in order, but the 260 Pro is a sluggish pig next to the 346, and would disrupt my pretty orange lineup.

got a dolmar dealer?

That 346xp sounds like a decent deal. A 260 pro is 510 bucks. If you aren't happy, find a new dealer. Sounds like that dealer has a different customer base compared to you interests. Either accept it for what it is or find a new dealer. My closest Husky dealer sucks. About 6 saws total, with the crown jewel being an old edition 346xp. You must pay shipping on all parts that are ordered. So it could be worse.

390xp powerhead cost me 790 bucks about 3 months ago :)
My 372xp powerhead cost me 750 bucks.
The shops will tell you that they "aren't allowed" to sell just the powerhead. Don't let them scroungy punks lie to you. I walked out, needless to say they called me back.
It pays to shop around and stand your ground.

Thats why I think I need to talk to the owner instead of one of his part-time lackeys. He got me a smokin deal on my 575 last year and threw in a ton of extras. He knows his saws and how they work, he just wasn't in this morning. I still think it's odd how few XP Huskys they had, last year this time the place was full of them, a full lineup of XP's.

Aw come on, maybe next time I'll walk in there wearing my Viking helmet.

You need to find a different dealer. Woodie has a good dealer in MI, not sure if you are close to where he is or not but worth checking out. The 2153 is a better saw on principle alone.

I am a long, long ways from Woodie, deep in the heart of Dutch Stihl country.

I like the 2153 but it will disrupt my pretty orange lineup.

Epick if it's not out of your way see what he wants for it. Thanks for offering.

Just looking to maybe pick a 346 up and the extra 5cc doen't mean that much to me.

I was dissapointed in my stihl dealer. He had never heard of the dual port cover for myt 460. And he wouldn't throw in nothin on the deal. And the only other dealer closeby didn't have a 460. I went to the closeby one to order my parts, and he gave me hell cause i was "messing with the carb". I ordered dawgs, DP cover, and carb limiters and removal tool. Oh well i guess. Its like nobody wants to sell you parts, they want to make you feel like a fool so you can bring it in and let them do it. I guess thats business.

hehehehehehe
