I picked up a pair of Jonsered chainsaw protective pants (new!) on local CL yesterday, and am curious how often you guys wash/launder them.

I hand wash my chaps only when I have to, to keep from tearing the protective pads loose, but those I wear outside my jeans. I have to assume that the pants get pretty 'gamey' while working from sweat, etc. when worn as your primary trousers. Could be a problem in polite company.

How often do you wash yours?

What do you guys wear under your chainsaw protective pants (shorts? gym shorts? go commando?) What do Scottsmen wear under their kevlar kilts?

Thanks.

Never have. I guess when they start trying to run off by there self I'll have to tie um to a pole in the shop. As long as you don't wash um you don't have to worry about people wanting to stop and talk to you when you working for some reason.

I never do, except with cold water on the outside, to remove mud etc, but then I don't pee or poo in mine.

The "user manual" say I can (mashine wash them that is), but I believe that will shorten their "life".

I wash my chaps every time I cut in poison ivy. Otherwise when they are matted with bar oil and dirt. The instructions that came with mine said washing and drying on delicate or fluff aided the protective panels in chain stopping performance.

Wash?

only a fool washes his chaps, all that grease, oil, and sweat is a VERY good water proofer!!

I'm married, why would I need to wash my own pants. Thats womens work :givebeer:

Exactly. I even traded her push mower in for a rider, so she has more time to wash my pants and get all the vaciuming done before she has to cook dinner. So now she can take a small nap before she has to head out to her 2nd job.

Do you ever leave the computer long enough to get them dirty?

Pressure washer and simple green. Air dry.

If I put my Chaps in the washing machine, it would contaminate the next dozen loads of laundry ,and kill all the beneficial bacteria in the septic tank.

I can't imagine the stench of Ball sweat and captured Jalapeno farts in cuttin' pants would come out, short of washing at the laundramat.

Fluffing the Choke mat fibers a bit makes sense, but washing/heat is detrimental to aramid fibers so I'd take it easy in that regard.

At what point are the Chaps/pants "worn out" is the question I have.

Stay safe!

Not the Jonsereds but...

I have a pair of the Stihl Hiflex pants - and despite the risk of being kicked of the forum I have to admit that I like them nice and clean, so I wash them quite often:(
