What chain to buy for my MS 460 32"???

So in an attempt to make another huge and pointless thread to waste as much bandwith on the vast wilderness we call the Internet, help me pick out a new chain for my newly acquired 32" powermatch on my MS 460. I don't normally need a bar that size, but here lately, ive acquired some big dead fall's that justified the purchase. Everything in my bones says "FULL CHISEL..GO BIG OR GO HOME!!!", but there is a small conservative side of me that says "How about trying some nice semi chisel, stay's sharper longer, that's a bunch of cutter's" But then Im thinking "try some skip, everybody's doing it" But I also want to prove to myself that the saw will pull a full chisel 32". Ah....so many choices, so little money.......Im going to buy whatever you guy's decide. So Vote now....also donations accepted. PM for details.

PS....The saw is ported/milled/muff modded. 190 psi. Not some junker

32" on a 460 is a bit much. I'd say order a loop of baileys woodland pro 30SCS
semi chisel skip. easy to file and cheap. 20cents a drive link at 105 DL < I think $21 buck a loop..Hope this reads well as I'm pretty looped up right now

I use skip on my 32" bar, I love it. If you need a 32" bar you will need a skip for chip removal. I have semi and full, it depends on if its green or dry or dirty or clean. I honestly like the semi better. Who cares if it takes you 4 seconds longer to make the cut. You will still be cuttin while your buddy using full is sharpening. My vote is for the skip. 30scs you will like it.

I have full chisel skip (75JG Oregon) on my 2094 Jonsered with a 34" bar.It cuts fantastic.
I think woodland pro or carlton would probably last longer.
 
The only way I would consider putting that much bar on my ms460 wood be for cutting stumps.For that its gonna be semi chisel for sure.
In your case if the dead stuff is clean, chisel will take a little less power to pull and is faster.

I run 28 full chiesl skip in softwoods and non skip on hardwoods
If I went with a 32 in. bar it would be full skip full chiesl

You're not in "production" where "time is money", so make it easy on yourself and your saw.

Semi-Chisel-Skip will cut just fine, nice and smooth, plenty fast, easier to sharpen, stays sharper longer.

Are you dragging the file backwards? I ask because my files lasts a long long time. I don't let my chains very dull so maybe that has something to do with it, but I don't find it to be an issue.:cheers:

33RSLHK- Half skip, thats what I voted for anyways. But I dont know my butt from a hole in the ground. I just like it because its different, but have heard it has no benefit.

Nope. Just cutting stroke, and usually I touch up the chain every other fill or so, and put a proper sharpening on them between cutting to keep the angles honest.

I get 3-4 touch ups and a couple sharpenings out of the Husky Files, and about the same from the cheapo Windsor(Spanish made) files.

Usually the Stihl and Pfered files hold up to double that, but it depends on how badly I chew up the cutters and where I'm cutting.

Sandy, skidded or muddy stuff, and it's all about wearing the files out.

WOW that sucks, I can sharpen a minimum of ten 105-DL chains with one Stihl file. I do however take really good care of my files. I use an air gun to clean them every couple of teeth, and rotate them a 1/4 of a turn at the same time. Obviously you can't do this in the field, but even then I try and clean them off every few teeth.

How hard are you pushing on the file? If the file is good and sharp you shouldn't need to use much pressure at all.
