Seems he should have had to pay big time, as you would say...he got off cheap...

What is he too good to give you a call to confirm that you could or couldn't get his chain done by 4:00pm? You didn't sell him a grinder, files, guides, reel of chain, case to store it in, and an extra saw with a sharp chain on it?

Your loosing your touch, IMO, must be those McD sundaes getting to your blood or somethin'...

If I ever leave you a chain with a note to have it sharpened in a few hours, please tell me to make like a sheep and get the flock outta 'yer store...or to make like a tree and leave:cheers:

Hahaha, actually he bought alot of mix oil, bar oil along with that new chain. I don't think he bought a file, I wish he had, I hate sharpening dayumm chains,:hmm3grin2orange::hmm3grin2orange::hmm3grin2orange:
 
Well, Tommy, what you haven't said is that you probably "earned" those extra dollars by jumping on his chain right away. If you had not had it ready, he would have gone out and bought another chain...from somebody else.
 
If you didn't lay down the law he would expected you to cater every time. There is nothing wrong with confronting customers.
 
I sharpen my own chain, and I don't know any local shops that offer service while you wait. Nobody expects that here, although sometimes you get lucky. I would probably call the store about a minute after you made your coffee, order my parts/product/whatever, and have you call me back when I should send someone in to get it.

I enjoy your threads, and I'd probably enjoy ####ering with you, Thall. I don't mind paying for service and value: if the local guy's costs are higher or his volume is lower he'll still get my business by offering value. For example your post on another thread about a pole saw...I might pay full retail without batting an eye if I need it, you have it, and I know if I break it you'll fix it so I don't have to either buy another one or send it to the factory center in Bumfork, Egypt.

I'm glad you had a decent human being show up at your shop. I'd hate it if you thought everyone was a loser.

I look for the good in all people, never the bad. Some put off a air about them you can detect right away and you have to set em striaght before they become a pita.

That man with the chain, he was a nice guy, I could tell and I merely wanted him to understand this isn't how it works. I was nice with him and he seemed to appreciate it. I look forward to getting into his wallet many more times and yes I will take care of him as well as anyone else. He knows how things work now,:cheers::cheers:

Ok, maybe he'll turn into a decent customer, you never know.

A good customer should understand reality though, and that is not good customer practice to do something like that, especially without calling and confirming it would be ready.

Good it worked out though, from the sound of it.

FWIW, if you don't like to sharpen chains, raise your price to sharpen. Keep doing that until less people bring you chains to sharpen! ;)

Probaly right. I figured he needed it and I figured too it was the only one he had and I was right. He has two now, I got him on the path to glory now. Soon he'll have 5 chains if he hangs around me long enough,LOL

He'll be a fine customer for sure. He's a good guy.

My Stihl rep comes in at times and merely sits and listens to how I talk to people. He hears alot of jibber jabber. He tells me I'm the only man he's ever seen that can really get on a customers case and they seem to like it. I tell him its all in the tone of voice you use. Being striaght forward using the right tone of voice doesn't upset folks at all. No need to be nasty and loud to get your point across I say. Ya gots to be smooth about it.

I'm charging 7.50 a chain now. That robbery as it is,LOL What kills me is I got a ton of chains sitting on the rack waitng to be picked up. Some have been sitting there for months, thats the main reason I hate fooling with chains, grrrrrr.
 
Yep. If I was the customer I'd've left the note sayin ' get this dam chain sharpened by 3'oclock and have the dam thing cleaned and spit-polished too. I'll be inspecting it thoroughly so don't try skimpin'. My husqvarna needs it urgently. And you'll be sending me the bill next month coz I'm buyin a new fleet of husqvarnas this month and I ain't got time to be payin' good money on a blunt chain at this juncture... Chop Chop.. PS I'll be wanting a cup of coffee and cream cake when I come in to collect it.. :cool:

Ouch, that's not cheap fer cetain...more than 1/3rd of a new chain, even with Stihl chain.

There's a way to fix that problem with bumpkins not picking up their chains...make them pay up front before you take the chain...I bet they show up a bit quicker to pick them up once they're paid for. :)

I see that space mentioned the F word...do lawyers know the F word??? I think not...LOL
 
I would have done it the same way you did. You let him know basically it was not appreciated and not to ever expect it again, plus made some sales. He may have came from an area where in the past the shop he used had nothing to do, and honestly did not know. I think you did right. :clap:

I sold a blower to a good ole older gent and his wife today. Real nice and funny couple. He tells me he needs a new small blower and real cheap price. I go tight are ya, his wife says yes he is. I hand him a BG55, the cheapest we have. He likes it and wants it. He says is that the best price. I go would you like me to show your wife those e-mails of nakie women you been sending me. He and her die laffing. He paid full price and they both left laffing their butts off.....

Yeah, she gets irritated when she has to hold the goat still that long, and then she said you tried to pay her on credit. She was pissed all right.
