No, you don't, and there actually are very few that do - just some fanatics! :)

Well, I talk - but all my talk indicate that the .325 is the best option - provided the chain is Oregon LP(X) or Stihl RSC.

There are lots of crappy .325 chain models out there, that give the .325 an undeserved bad reputation - like the 30-series SL that Dolmar like to sell (might be the worst of them all, from a major brand).

There are more good options in 3/8" for sure, but the RSC and LP still are the best, as far as I know - for most use in clean wood.

Troll, that's exactly why I went with 3/8 on mine. Good .325 chains are hard to come by around here, and 3/8 is easy, so that's the direction I went. A lot of the saw shops/hardware stores don't want to sell "yellow" chain to John Q Homeowner, so they only stock the good stuff in 3/8 for the "pros".

That is an informed decition that I approve of - but I hope you don't state that 3/8" is better than .325 on a 50cc saw because of it - that would not be fair! ;)

I guess you have saws that are better suited for 28" bars - you are obviously just stirring the pot! :biggrinbounce2::laugh::laugh::ices_rofl:

Btw, how many members do you think your post was helpful to....;)

As many as your posts do lately .............:laugh:........

My saws run bigger than 13" bars .........

Have you ever had a saw totally apart ???

How many of the saws you post about have you actually run???

Have you ever run a saw with larger than 24" bar???

..
:laugh::laugh::laugh: Sorry to say, you just proved my point, again - another post that is just about making cheap points - but you are right that I never ran a bar longer than 24", no need for that here.

They are legit Questions ...........Seem your giving advise on plenty of stuff you have never run.....Your trying to play the your picking on me crap .........

You have been on a mission to call me a brand dealer and have been posting a lot of crap too.......Thats ok for you .......Your poor saw troll .....

Can you answer the Questions ..........

Most here see through your boasting about the 361 and 346......You seem too include it in most of your posts that have nothing too do with the saws questioned about ........

Seems your a big pot stirrer for quite some time .....Look back at 3/4 of your posts .....Its ok for you too stir the pot as it is for me ......:laugh:

Go beg for rep and have a beer ......You might feel better ...

what does that have to do with running a saw, using it on a daily basis and finding what works best for a saw under given conditions...i bet there are pro loggers that dont pull down saws other than the VERY basics....

that is a legit question, my bet is most if not all.

what has that got to do with the 50cc class and the discussion between 3/8 and .325?

..

I'm kinda new to the whole chainsaw thing. I grew up in a rural world but always bought my wood until a couple of springs ago when the price of firewood went through the roof. At 54, I made the decision to harvest firewood from my own land and cut and do my splitting with mall and wedges.
It's not as hard as it looks if all you need is four cords a year.
But I digress.....
I found this site and after purchasing my first decent homeowner saw, have been checking in almost daily for about 1.5 years.
Now I may be a greenhorn when it comes to chainsaws, and fall far short of the kind of cylinder and piston obsession that prevails here, I'm no fool.
I'm pretty well educated for a New England N'er do well and know a good thing when I see it.
Saw Troll has always impressed me most with his knowledge of chain saws, period.
I'm not much of one for internet "expert races" as I often call them.
Read what you want. Ignore the rest. That's the wonderful choice you have.
You pick your expert, try to be one if you want but earn it, don't declare it.
Running down Saw Troll won't elevate you one inch in my mind and he has earned my respect by what he knows. Not how well he argues.
Just sayin.....

So here we got a man putting .325 chains on 60-70cc saws while others are putting 3/8 chains on 50cc saws. Goes to prove its all in whatcha like..

Hey Thall, here's a challenge..........
I've got a 10 pin .325 setup on an 066 with a 20 inch bar, rakers at about .035.

Can you say light sabre?

You got alot of saws, just try it.

Had to do a little grinding to the end of the bar though, took about 15 minutes.
