How Do You Hold Your Saw When Starting?

Depends on the saw. My 066 is pre-comp, so when it's cold, it goes on the ground. Once it's warmed up, it's a drop start. The 350 is a drop starter, but most of the others I'll start on the ground unless warm.

Yeah, I'm a very bad man.

Brake, choke, decomp if I remember the stupid thing, and it starts on it's own.

Huskys are like that. No need to start cussing in German or waiting for them to squeeze out a little schnitzel fart.

For some reason though, my neighbors Mighty woodshark wont start without a shot of Soy sauce down the spark plug hole.... never seen that.
Must be a homeowner saw thing.

Stay safe!

drop only

i start all sawz by drop start and no decompress:clap: only saw i own that is not even possible to drop start is my mac 1-80 the sob has a 195psi cylinder compression and will rip your arm and fingers clean offf:jawdrop:

drop start unless i have the 42 on the 066, then it is a mix of a drop start with the tip sitting on some wood.

Sure is some funny responses in here.

Here is my way, works on every saw I encounter.

Hold saw in right hand standing
Engage chain brake, if it works...LOL
Pull starter rope with left hand.

:chainsaw:

I drop start every saw I own, its the way I was taught and its the way everybody I know does it. On smaller saws I have been known to drop start it with one hand on the rear handle pulling the trigger.

It seems like forever that when I start my chainsaw, especially the larger ones when they are cold, I set the thing on the ground, put my right boot through the rear handle to hold the saw down on one end and my left hand holding the handle on the forward end - grab the rope and pull like crazy!

I ask because I have seen people grab the rear handle in one hand, the rope in the other and pull to start. This way looks like a great way to saw your leg off!

Once the saw is warm, I will hold it by the forward handle with the left hand and pull the rope with the right hand without the trigger locked - starting at idle.

What's your trick to starting chainsaw?

Bill

Right hand on handlebar, left on the starter handle - always in the air, never on the ground.

My Buddy at work got an old Mac 610 off ebay last fall.

He brought it over and was beaming proud, Put his foot in the handle and pulled his arse off.

Finaly got it started and it ran like crap, Think it had less than 100# compression.

My little Sisters Fisher Price see and say pulled harder than that beat Mac.

Kinda funny seeing a 6'2" 260# guy being so careful.

Hard starting saw

I always drop start!!!!!!

My Beloved 285 Cd gets stiff when it it sits. I found a squirt of mix in the carb lets it start first pull.

My friend cut his leg by drop starting a chainsaw. The saw did not start, it cut his leg just by dragging the chain over it. All of this happened in a dealers showroom. He went to the ER for stitches and when he said he cut his leg with a chain saw there were four nurses and three doctors that ran over to treat him. He got four stitches.
