Been lurking on the site for awhile, and now I've got a line on a new 372xpw at a good price. Searching the site doesn't offer much specific info on the "xpw,"

I don't know how much the rave reviews of the 372xp translate to this saw which has a larger engine and a full wrap handle. So I'm looking for goods and bads before I spring for a new saw. I've also been looking at MS441 and MS460 but the price on this Husky is considerably less than either of the Stihl's.

Thanks in advance

Pat

The xpw is the same saw with a little more torque. I like it the best of the 372, 440, 441, 460, and 7900. The 576 is really growing on me though. It seems to have more torque than the 75cc 372 but is only 73.5 in strato form. The 372 xpw is a great saw to have though as a big saw or middle saw.

only one con,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

it came with a full wrap handle.ordered a half wrap, sold the full for more than i paid for the half and the saw is perfect.

Mine has been stumping with a 28" for the last year since I sold the 395.just picked up a 390xp so it's back to the 24" for the xpw.saw rips stock.I love it.I only have one regret, I should have bought two.

For the life of me I can't understand full wrap handles. I know it's what you get used to but I've managed to get myself in all sorts of gymnast type tree felling situations and never thought "Gee I wish I had a full wrap". Not having a go at full wraps as heaps of people love them in the US/Canada etc. I just can't see how they'd ever benefit me with what I do in regard to felling trees - I've never seen one in Australia. They probably protect the saw a bit when she's rolling around in the back of the vehicle I suppose

I bet if you tried one you would really like it. I never thought I would like them until I got the 372xpw. After that I wish they came on saws in my area. Half the dealers around here that seen some of my saws that had the wrap handles said I'd cut that part off then it would be a good saw.

I suppose it's just what you're used to and the way you handle a saw. I just can't see why I'd need one with what I do. I reckon they'd get in the way when flush cutting stumps at ground level or cutting low due to bifurcated trunks etc. I would like to try a wrap one day and you never know, I might be a convert but I don't think it will make my tree felling any easier or more efficient

It might not really make it any easier but will make it easier on your hands, arms and wrists for sure in some situations. If you don't cut on sides of hills then it might never make a difference for you.

Yeah that's what I was thinking regarding the hills. That was the only benefit I could think of. Pretty flat where most of my trees get cut so I generally have the option of cutting from either side although I don't have any real problem cutting from both sides of the tree :) There must be a reason why you guys love 'em though so enjoy

If I still had one for the 7900 I would send it over to you to try out. The only bad thing is if you're cutting in someone's yard or something like that you need to bring 2 saws so you can get the stump real low.

I never carry any less than 3 saws when doing tree jobs anyway but I reckon I'll manage. Thanks for the thought. I might make my own out of some steel pipe, tape, Tek screws, and glue ;)

They are for felling on steep hills, but for most of us they just are extra weight that are in the way.......:help:

Btw, older 372 xpws didn't have the larger engine.
