What is a good saw to collect ?

Personally, I do not stick to any one brand, though I have about 30 Poulans and and about 25 Homelites. I look for older metal cased saws as well as more modern saws that are easy to sell (though I don't do that often). My tastes have been running more to bow saws recently.

Sometimes I just go get a load and take everything that is available...

There is a difference between "collecting" and "accumulating". Collecting usually has a "theme". Not necessarily a particular brand but maybe a type of saw. Such as the smallest or largest saw made by every manufacturer or two man saws or whatever. Most of us fall into the "accumulation" category and buy what we come across for various reasons. A clear case of CAD is easily diagnosed by evidence of buying repairable saws but never selling them. Just adding and adding until your family has to start making excuses for you. Glad I'm not that guy.

I'm not a collector, I do have an apprecition for the old stuff. A family friend helped us out a few years ago, he had big yellow saws, after running them, the Stihls, 036, 044, 066 seemed weak, unexciting, tame. I managed to make off with two vintage saws, a Super 250 and an XL925, I use them on a weekly basis.
