the hell of it is, most of you boys pizzin' on each other's boots would prolly drank a sudz together if'n you run into each other at the saw shop.

goes without sayin.. that's what's puzzlin 'bout anybody getting worked up here. but.. you gotta know - show the slightest twist in your panties and the hoards will decend, wrap 'em up real good for you.

If you are a troll, then find another bridge to lurk under. If you came here to learn about saws then you need to make that the focus of your dialogue. If you came to argue semantics, grammar and etiquette take a hike as I have those areas covered.

Shouldn't there be a comma after "etiquette"?

What a thread, some folks are quick studies and other's just can't take a hint or a swift kick.lol

I'm a "pile of bricks" man, myself.

The reception that you received was commensurate with the responses you provided. I suspect that in the other forums new members showed respect for the older and more knowledgeable ones and did not resort to name calling when their fragile egos were hurt.

Just remember, you will be treated here (or anywhere for that matter) the same way that you treat others.

I have not been treated here how I treat others.

For the record... if you read the entire post you will see that I wasn't the one who lowered the discussion to name calling...that would be Randymac... please show me where I was disrespectful to him BEFORE he called me an idiot. So you see in this forum its "the older more knowledgeable ones" that lack respect for others.

I am not a troll. I was in the process of discussing the use of saws when Randymac decided to be a grammar nazi by pointing out that people on the west coast apparently get their titties all twisted up by someone using the word feller. All of the things you are accusing me of doing were actually instigated by one of the people you are defending.

Other than this thread, to defend myself, Ill just be a lurker from now on, because it is apparent that you old pros have no tolerance for the less experienced members asking questions...if you need more proof of that open just about any other post made by someone with a low post count.

not true. lot of members in this forum and other AS forums (including the old farts) have helped and continue to help new members. Look around.

damn man, just be quiet.

openloop - ... good advice, and do some reading of old threads in the mean time.

btw, if anyone thinks this thread is hostile, go back and read some of the threads from the cast iron, wild west days.

Openloop,

You are beating a dead horse.....

:deadhorse::deadhorse::deadhorse::deadhorse::deadhorse::deadhorse::deadhorse:

You have now responded to your own thread 31 times (yes, I counted). If people are going to be swayed by your statements it would have occurred long before now. For many, your continual rehash of this subject only confirms the opinions that have been posted.

Lurking may be best option in that you can continue to gain knowledge without running the risk of being criticized or offending others.

Yeah. Well, i hung around for couple of years before joining, just to let my skin wrinkle up before joining. Like Pop used to tell me. If you move, make sure you can blend in and enjoy the new place and learn something. Good advice. Now I'm the old man, ha ha. Guess that's the final lesson...

You're right... I should just abandon my own thread.... seems to be full of pricks anyway.... maybe Ill just abandon the site entirely. That way all the old loggers can go back to discussing their favorite rot-gut, and reminiscing about how many trees they cut down in their prime as if they are some semi-modern day Paul Bunyan. Some of you like to complain that this site is overrun by the inexperienced, and ignorant. In my short time here Ive been treated fairly by those same people you complain about, all the while some "old pro" was there to run his mouth and bring any admiration for the loggers of old to a screeching halt. I frequent a few other online forums and never have I seen a bigger collection of people unwilling to deal with new members. So I think I might take my leave...and for all you old pros... I hope you enjoy sitting around and stroking each others egos.

Yeah this is helping you make new friends. :dizzy:

We were all new here once and had to go through this a little bit, almost a right of passage. I look up to those old "semi-modern day Paul Bunyons" because without them and their kind I would be living in a house built out of air and heating it with dreams. Randy may have started by correcting you on the use of your words but you had to escalate it by persisting with talk of dictionaries and all that nonsense, earning you the title of idiot. If you come to a place like this where there a lot of old timers lurking then you should know they might be blunt, it is part of being on a forum like this. If you can't deal with it then please do us all the pleasure of staying the hell out of here.

We don't much care if you admire us or not. We sure as hell don't care if you like us. If you're such a sensitive little butter-cup that any kind of criticism sends you off into some kind of hysterical rage and you defend yourself with whining and book references...well, maybe you'd be better off someplace else.

But if you go you're the only one who'll suffer. There's a wealth of knowledge and information available here and it's here for the asking. The majority of people on AS will go out of their way to answer your questions and help you any way they can. If you turn your back and walk away from the kind of things you can learn here it's your loss.

Some of us may not have the people skills, civility, and tact that you seem to require. Too bad. Learn to deal with it because we're not likely to change. If we're blunt, at least our meaning is clear.

So...go off somewhere and sulk...or stick around, grow a little hide, and learn something. Your choice entirely.

Both of these are great posts. I was the new guy not too long ago. I asked a few questions, but for the most part I just read. I was amazed at the collection of knowledge that was available here. I could read and learn all this interesting stuff and it was free!!!!!!! What a great deal!

I've made some really good friends here since I joined too. Not just online either. I've met and now talk with several guys from this site. Tlandrum2002 is having a get together Oct. 1st. I'll bet at least 50 guys will show up, probably more. We will run each others saws, swap parts, trade knowledge, eat good grub............... I bet Openloop would have a blast there, if he could learn to shut up and just be still for awhile. Thick skin is a necessity when hanging out with the men.

It is all your's buddy. I got my laughs here already. The sun is out, been peeling the trim off the Ranchero, could be getting painted next week.

Now that's something we can kick around. A new paint job on a classic is always cool. I've got a '66 Fairlane 500 that I've had for 15 years or so. It runs great but could sure use a paint job.
