lookin to buy a new splitter dont want to spend over 2500 whats the best built for the money going to split about 30 cord a year

I guess it depends on the type of wood you are splitting, if you wood is anything like mine 8-16 inch diameter few knots I would recommend a SuperSplitter. After having bought and used a hydro splitter for several years with a 13 second cycle time and side table I was able to upgrade to a used, vintage SuperSplit. On a very rare occasion I miss the hydro.

Ready for this? The productivity, longevity, simplicity, reliability, efficiency, mobility, and product support of a supersplit is hard to match. I was able to purchase my supersplit for a mere $350 and after having used it for several months now I would consider a new one at around $2500 a great investment, (in terms of heating oil thats just over 700 gallons. At 30 cord a year you can't afford not to own a American Made SuperSplit. Mine around 20 + years old is in need of a production table, the original 3hp briggs chugs along at around 1800rpm for a good while on a gallon of gas.

For $2500, you really can't beat a kinetic splitter. Either the SuperSplit, or the DR RapidSplit. I'm not sure which one, if either, is towable.

Here are some links:

DR® Power Equipment - DR RapidFire Log Splitter

Log Splitter, Wood Splitter - Super Split(R)

Go to youtube and do a search on "superlit" and on "dr rapidsplit", and you will get a ton of videos.

If you are short on time (some weekends only) and want to do 30 cord, then I would look at an inertia splitter. Otherwise, a Huskee will suit your needs just fine.

As previously suggested, Take a look at the Brave line of splitters. They are made in Illinois and the 26 ton model has served me well for 6 years.

Check out Iron and Oak and go with a 4 way wedge.

Could be upgraded...

I got one of these last fall and love it.

Brave Products, Inc. - Products

It's used for our campsite and fireplace wood. You can just about put it in a trunk. I set it in my trailer so I don't have to pick the wood up again. It's not a toy.

The incredible light weight and portability are both marvelous. Seems like the slow cycle time is its biggest drawback. Replace the pump with a 2-stage 11 GPM and this Brave splitter might run twice as fast with the same power and no other enhancements required. The splitter I run today has a 3" cylinder and a 2-stage 11 GPM pump. I'm also getting about 16 tons with a 6 HP motor that I usually run at half speed or less.

I'd really like to hear others on our forum comment on this pump upgrade possibility.

Splitter speed isn't the problem, I run slower than the splitter.......

Agree, the SuperSplit is a hard splitter to beat for 2500, I bought mine used for much, much less. After having owned and run one for less than a year I would purchase one for the new asking price without question. I figure the lack of required maintenance, efficiency and longevity of a SuperSplit over the coarse of 10-15 years would more than justify the additional cost over a entry level hydro. My 2 cents.

I'm thinking seriously about a SS and a conveyor this year... Next step? Full on processor...
Can you still get a SS for 2500?

Matt, mine came to a bit over $2800 with shipping.
Looks like prices haven't gone up any since I bought.

I'll have it at the next gtg, but we need to use it more than last time!

And, I'll bring over the elm crotch and some "straight" elm with spiral grain that nobody can identify. Both make good campfires. We can all drink a snort after Super Split stalls out after 30 slams. ;)

Oh, and BTW, has anyone used Super Split on Live Oak, that tree that loves to grow down in Florida with moss hanging on the branches? I've never seen a post here on that event.
