oleo 480?

hi there, long time didnt get to write, even thoung still around ; i am looking forward to get a very nice 480S but i have no clue about it; anyone could give me some details : cc , bars etc.? really appreciate

Olympic 951...find IPL?

Just got an Olympic 951 that has been sitting for 3 years...And, just as I thought, full of gas and oil...Or should I say shellac?...Recoil rope broke...needs a new chain adjuster screw (bent...but no sign of having been dropped...probably was) ...new gas line/filter (tygon)...cleaned her up a bit...gotta kind of figure this one out as I go along....Begging for an IPL in the sticky manual area. Just doubt everyone checks it everyday...so thought I'd put it here...From what I can see the piston/cylinder look perfect...shiney and smooth. I'll try to get her back together and running one of these days...Price was right and from everything I've read they were/are quite a nice little 3.0 CU saw. (49.8cc). Not sure how to MM it either. Looks very compartmentalized in there and, given that it's a 20-yr old saw it might not need it. I'll have to run it a bit before I decide that. I'm going to have to go over this big thread and find the Olympic 951 comments again.

Isn't a IPL but heres some info. Looks a lot like my 264F Deluxe.
 
Might be the other way around. The 200 series predates those Poulans by quite a bit, mid 70s design.

900 series is mostly just updated styling and (I think) av.

Looking at the pics of the 900 series at home vs on my phone, I see I am wrong. There are more than just cosmetic changes between the 200 and the 900 series, the most obvious of which is the case design is different, fuel filler location moved to where the choke used to be, etc. Guess I need a 900 series of my own.

Yeah. To my eyes, the 251 and such look more like they were 'inspired' by the old Jonsereds.:D

It's like the XL-12 series and the saws from other manufacturers that look like them (Pioneer 1200, Poulan 361, Remingtons, Lombards, etc).....................almost nothing interchanges despite the similar layout and look......
 
Olympyk 951

I asked about info on my 951 and got all the help I could use!...Thanks guys for sharing your knowledge. Up and running strong now but not oiling. I think finding an oiler for an Olympyk 951 won't be easy. My efco 951 IPL shows the pump as 094600339 but I don't know if that's right. My 951 is 49.8 cc and I don't honestly know if the Efco model is the same. And my Oleo-Mak PDF doesn't give part numbers here. I'm hoping that one of the AS Olympyk gurus might be able to point me in the right direction. It's a strong saw and once fixed up I think it'll cut a lot of wood. Thanks.
 
Ihl Can I get a little more info on my Olympic 970. It is alittle beat up and it does run good but in my area it it's kind of unheard of. Mainly husky, Johnny and Stihl. There was a couple of dealers around here but now know where to be found. I don't really need the saw but don't knows what to ask for it or if I should just sit on it. What should I do?

The 264F to me is the cream of the Oly crop. Very torquey!!! I've never timed any cuts with mine, but it seems to run right along side of my J-Red 2065. Even if the 264 is close, its still impresses me for a 59cc saw, pulling a 20 inch bar. I have a 264 Delux. The 264F is a much better saw. I think it pulls better and I like the rim sprocket over the spur on the deluxe.

Someone will have to explain to me why Olympyk saws are always 5 or 6 cc's below the model number. 264 IS 59CC, 272/271 is 66 cc's.

Now that the hollidays are over, I'm going to clean off the bench and start working on my growing orange project pile. I have a 234 to tinker with. A 950 and a 945 that I'm going to make a runner out of. And another 264 Deluxe that needs a little to get running. I also have carcusses of a 272 and 284 that a lot of parts interchange that I could probably get running.

My Oly wish list includes a 480, and a 244

My 254 is actually a 53cc so you will have to add 1 on that list also :hmm3grin2orange:. I have a 264F Deluxe and that is a very nice saw. It cuts about the same as my 455 Rancher. Running a 19in bar on that 264 and it will cut like butter. Very Very nice well engineered saw. I seen a few of the F's on Ebay that needed some work, but they were mostly complete. Maybee if you find a few of them you can build yourself a nice saw.

That 970 that you have is a very very very high quality pro saw. They are made in Italy and a lot of the Olympyk's were sold here in the United States. I think that the Oleo Mac's (almost identical to the Oly's were sold more overseas). You will see a lot of the earlier Olympyks spelled "Olympic". They had to change their name or be sued by the World Olympics :laugh:. They also had another way they spelled it I believe. Basically Olympyk is as good as any Stihl, Husky, Jred, Dolmar, etc. People just cut them down a lot because they were not really that well known. The main problem with this brand is that it is very hard to find parts for them since they were not really marketed too well, thereby not too many were actually sold. Don't get me wrong lots were sold but not nearly as many of the well known brands.
Pretty much if I was you I would keep the saw and take very well care of it. If you do, it will last you many years. If someone with a Stihl or Husky cuts you down for using it and says that its junk (just because they have never heard of it), just fire it up and show them how it works! If that does not get them to shut up then they are not worth your time. If you ever need any advice or tips on it just post em on this thread. Us Oly fans on here will be glad to help you out. Well thats only 1cc differance. The Deluxe comes in at 59cc and the 264 F is 61cc. A 272 comes in at 66cc's.A whopping 6cc's disparity. I would want to say that the Italians were naming these saws after Holiday, but they were made to good so I'm pretty sure they weren't made by someone hungover.LOL!

Its been a while since I've seen a Rancher in action, but that Deluxe should spank one. I know my 264F running a 20 incher would. I'm gonna have to break that old girl out soon and run it against my 2065. Like I said its close to it in performance.
 
Olympic 240

Just picked up this bad boy at the scrap yard. Is missing the clutch cover and air cleaner cover + filter. Could not pass her up for 5 bucks. Took her home and she gets great spark and 120 on the compression tester. Piston looks very good and the cylinder is nice. Kind of made me laugh because when I turned it onto the "off" position and hooked up my comp tester and pulled it over it was jumping sparks off the switch :laugh:. Hope to take it out tomorrow and see if I can get it running. Would not have picked it up if it was not a Olympyk. View attachment 271475View attachment 271476
