Hi
I just got and old 044 with a broken piston....
I wanna rebuild this saw, it will be my big saw, so I want as power out of it as posible....
It has the 12mm wrist pin.

I wanna port it a make a muffler mod...
but what piston/cylinder kit should I go for...?
I have seen some of you guys making a hybrid with the 046 bb kit... If it´s worth the trouble I think I will do that...
How would this set up perform compared to a husky 372xpg...?

MAX power would be the 460 hybrid. Two ways, Get a OEM Mahle cylinder or talk to Mastermind (Randy) he has Meteor kits already ported for $400:cool2:

Is the cylinder ok ?

044 cylinder saws are strong the way they are

The cylinder is not pretty but i could be safed....
I like having something noobody else have... Thats why Im thinking of the hybrid

If no body else had one they wouldn't sell many kits, would they? There have been a lot of those made. I think you mean no body else in your cutting circle. Get the ready made cylinder from Randy and be sure to put on a dual outlet muffler and you will beat a 372 to death! Mike

Call Terry Landrum, or Mastermind (Randy) for the whole BB kit......... you wont regret it !!!

Im pretty sure it will be the first hybrid 044/046 in Denmark... Modding chainsaw is not something you see that much over here....
I dont wanna get a ported bb kit from randy, I like to do the porting and trimming my self.
I would like to know what kind of modyfications I need to do to the 046 cylinder to make it fit...?

Do yourself a favor and stick with OEM.

This is a MS440 with a ported Mahle MS460 topend.

Hi Brad,
Is that a 7 or 8 pin sprocket ?
Sorry I left you off my list but I wasnt sure if you offer ported cylinder kits ........ do you sell them so the owner can install them himself ?

That is a 7-pin. I don't run an 8-pin on anything less than a strong 90cc saw. It just makes the saw easier to operate.

I do not offer mail order cylinder kits. The OP isn't looking for a ported cylinder anyway.

Ok so why should I stick to OEM 52 mm 046 kit, instead of the 54 mm BB kit...? Im gonna port it any way....
Bigger piston = more power....?

I have only been impressed with two of the several BB kits I've messed with, and the 046/460 kit wasn't one of em. In fact, it was a turd.

An 046 top isnt the only way to make an 044 go. You can make that 44 jug run with the right work or find you an old 10mm cylinder and make her really go....

Wiggs, ..you trying to confuse the poor OP, using a smaller P&C can`t possibly make more power...:msp_sneaky:

my 10mm saw the more i use it the more i like it ,i dont know if its as fast as my hybrid ,but i can bury a 32 inch bar with it and its stock and it pulls pretty good through the cut ,only thing done is added dual port cover to the factory larger early muffler ,its got more tourque than my stock newer 440

What is so bad about the bigbore kits...?
They are cheap and easy to get...
What is the difference from a bb kit to an OEM....?

Just having a hard time seeing why they wouldnt work...!
