Does any one run the stihls with the filter cover off when there's no chance of rain? It seems the filters stay cleaner that way. I ran the 066 like that with the HD 2 filter and it would go a long time without clogging with fines.

i vary rarely cut in the rain but i have cut with out the cover and yep big difference

The 7900 HD filters filter great if they don't break off the base of the filter. Probably on par with the HD 2 from stihl.

i got them on all my saws for easier maintenance. keeps all the bigger chips out of the pleats.

About 3 weeks ago I bought a new 461 with a 20" bar. I switched the 20 with the 28" that I already had for my 440 until the 32" bar I ordered came in. I've been cutting a little firewood (3 loads) and I have came to my only gripe so far. There is no prefilter for the air filter. Why? I know the answer.... "Oh our new design is much better and eliminates the need for a prefilter". Bull hock! After only 3 loads of firewood my filter is getting clogged. I know it's not a big gripe but come on they could've used the prefilter and made maintenance a lot easier. Usually on my 440 a quick cleaning of the prefilter is all that is needed after every 5-6 loads.

Max-Flow filters are the best air filtration product I've used. Fine sawdust doesn't pass through the green filter and in severe conditions (fire rehab, etc) the white filter will prevent dust from passing through. The oiled foam filters can be run with or without the included rain cover. I wash the filter in Dawn dishwasing liquid and oill the foam with spray oil from Bailey's. I scrape off the filter a few times before washing it.

MAXFLOW CHAINSAW AIR FILTERS for Stihl Chainsaws

I definitely like the idea of spending $12 for a prefilter instead of $55 for a maxflow especially if you have to use another air filter housing cover

Air flow is not a concern with Outerwears. I used them exclusively on my sand duning built Yamaha Banshee. We're talking machines with WAY more performance than a little chainsaw.

Brad, I assume this will fit the 066 with the hd2? Is it a different p/n? Also it said they didnt have a shipper available for OH. Weird?

the only bits that are on the inlet are what fell of when i pulled the filter

I'm sure it lets more air through than a clogged up air filter. And its only a thin fabric made especially for pre filters.

Surely, if you let them get really dirty. Also, a system that keeps most of the chips and dust out of the air box will always be a better solution (Air Injection etc).....

They will ship to Ohio. You need to "join" by giving them your name and e-mail address, then the shipping is available. I just ordered 3 and the shipping to ohio is 5 bucks.

Well I have 2 on order - one for the 461 and one for the 440 :cool2:. I figure it sure couldn't hurt! Thanks guys!
