I broke down yesterday and ordered a SSHD. I came to the realization that my hydraulic splitter was unnecessary in my situation. I quarter everything to a manageable size with my skid steer splitter. I just want it to get here so I can start splitting. Every year I sell more and more firewood and my hydraulic splitter doesn't get any faster, so I hope this will help increase my production. It's only the second day since I ordered it and it feels like it's been a week. If you couldn't tell I'm a little impatient.

How long did it take to get it? Connor told me it would take 2-3 weeks to get it. I'm usually not impatient but I have to much wood to split and my hydraulic splitter can not keep up anymore. My splitter still runs great but since I quater everything the log lift is a waste. I'm going to feel like a kid on Christmas morning when it gets here.

An all wood. I would have the same feelings even if I had a timberwolf. It still works great just doesn't fit my needs anymore. I'll probably use both splitters at the same time if I have help. Eventually it will be a back up.

Is yours the one for sale on CL - Wrightstown?

Welcome to the club! You won't regret it. There was a couple of things I didn't like and have modified, as others have done. Search the threads for ideas.

Yes it is. I have it on ebay too. I've gotten a lot low offers. A lot think that I just want to get rid of it and I'll take whatever they will give me. But I don't mind holding on to it.

If you still have it in a month or so I may be interested in splitting some wood for you as a possible test drive. Looking for a splitter with a log lift and 6 way. Can you can an unbiased review of the machine?

jrider is not quite there yet... I think he is worried they have been over hyped. But then again, he has split more wood than most of us.
Not over hyped, just still questioning the durability. I like to run equipment, not fix it. Roughly 1000 cords through my current splitter and I've only had to replace the control, valve a few times and the engine once. Plus I'm looking for a log lift

The 6 way is waste. The only stuff the 6 way will split is 12" diameter ash with no knots. I'm just glad the 6 way was included and it wasn't extra. The 4 way works good. Other then the 6 way there's nothing that would keep me from buying another one if I wanted a hydraulic splitter. I don't mind you coming over and testing it.

What splitter do you have?

I have an Iron and Oak with a 4 way and I'm very happy with it but I want to get something that has a log lift and can split more wood faster than I currently can. Working with the right sized wood and splitting 16" lengths, I can split a cord in about an hour and a half to an hour and 45 minutes. Bigger stuff and pieces with lots of knots/crotches obviously slows things down.

Does the machine not have the power to run the 6 way? What are the issues with it?

It does not have the tonnage. Unless you're splitting nice wood the 6 way will not work. You can come and try the 6 way. You can pick out wood that you split a lot of and see if it would be good for you.

Ok. I need to sell a bulk of my firewood first so I have some money again...we dumped everything we had and then a little more into a kitchen remodel back in the spring. Moved 8 cords so far and have another 6 going out this weekend. If we ever get some cooler weather, it will really pick up. I appreciate your honesty about the 6 way. I'm about an hour south and east of you.

Looks like you have a good sized operation going. How much wood have you split with it?

The past 5 years including this year probably around a couple hundred. This year so far I've sold 27 cords. So I need to increase production. You wait a month you will be able to see the SS in action!!!

The bible school I attended required the students to do work around the school. I spent many hours running a SS that was
Lent by a local family in the firewood business.
By then it was just kept for small jobs, as they had real processors that you just fed the log into.
The husband and wife had run a couple hundred cords through the SS to get started, then moved up.
The school bought a grapple load or three a year to heat the teachers homes, and we split almost all of it on the SS each year. Going full tilt, it took three of us to keep it fed and cleared.
