Hello all, just bought a Countyline 22 ton logsplitter that was used for one season and in great shape. Anyways it runs great and will split the small stuff, but once you try anything big it will just stop a half inch into the log and will not split it. The engine dosent bog down or stall. Its as if it is only working in the 1st stage, the second and powerfull stage of the pump dosent seem to be engaging(Speeco 11gpm). Is there anyway I can make adjustments to it or is the pump screwed? Thanks for any help!!

Yes it makes noise as if its trying really hard but just cant split it.

splitter level?
oil level adequate?
new hydraulic filter? (i like napa)
someone with more knowledge on the speeco pumps will be along shortly.
welcome to AS. @joe12345

The splitter is level, fluid is full and clean, filter has not been replaced, its had maybe a chord through it does it need replaced yet?

if it only has a cord through it it should be ok. was the splitter stored outside or in before you bought it? not sure if the control valve on that model is adjustable.

It was stored inside. From the research Ive done there is an adjustment screw on the pump? not sure wich way or how much to turn it though.

I would start by putting a guage to see that its making propper pressure as mentioned above.

2 possibilities the hose that feeds the pump is collasping starving pump of hydro fluid or if screen inside the tank at that connection could be plugged up again restricting flow. If you can squeeze that supply hose to the pump flat by hand that could be it. You could have a problem with the lovejoy coupler but that doesn't make a lot of noise. another is the bypass section of the valve could be stuck part way not sure if that would make a lot of noise

Sounds like your valve might be going into bypass before it should. Does it have an Energy/Energy clone valve? Possible it just needs an adjustment.
You could always just put it behind the garage, get a couple bags of Cheetos, smoke some medical marijuana, and just buy your wood off Craigslist. . . pretty much solve your problems without having to cut a pressure gauge into the system.

wood tick - what's wrong with a person asking questions for some help? We all had to start somewhere. There are those that have a difficult time with mechanics but have multiple PHDs in mathematics and such. Heck I grew up with tools as toys- many do not have that kind of background.
I'm just curious as to where you don't see any sound mechanical advice in my response to the person who posted a problem. Most of those Splitters have either an energy or energy clone valve if he calls energy and tell him he is one of their valves they will provide him with how to check the adjustments or make them which he could do without adding a pressure gauge. He doesn't feel like doing any of that then I guess he can get some weed some Cheetos and by his wood on Craigslist another excellent idea. I'm sorry if you cannot read or comprehend but perhaps it might be from your education at the SKIDS University and all those years of having SKID MARKS in your underpants diminished what little rational thinking process you may have once had.
I guess I didn't see the posting that anointed you as God of the arboristsite and the one to judge all advice. Perhaps you could and paste that into your enlightening response. Stop being a **** everyday of your life.

Wood tick I did not attack you in any manner nor call names or reference any thing indiscreet I just asked you , maybe not in the best way to lighten up a bit. for that I apologize. In regards to your second paragraph above concerning various substances.
Please note that I have a ME deg. can build a computer from scratch- fix the xyz things most of time, know how to use and do on a daily basis vertical & horizontal mills surface grinders and on and on- run my own business, repair my own equipment- know how to use various test equipment, custom build machine for customers make custom or replacement parts , diagnose problems weather it be machine or process related. Sometimes I have ask for help also. Interaction with people is not one of my better skills- point blank I suck at it. So again if I stepped on a toe sorry. Have a nice day.

I have a Brave 22ton splitter that is doing the same thing, so far I have replaced the fluid and filter, new 2 stage pump, replaced the Energy valve, still have the same problem. It will work for about 15 minutes and then quit going into second stage. I did notice that when it starts acting up, the cylinder is hot to the touch. I notice, when I had the valve off, the fitting at the cylinder is welded onto the cylinder and there is only a 1/4 inch hole drilled into the cylinder wall for the fluid to enter the cylinder. My next plan is to enlarge that hole in the cylinder and see if that helps.....when I get time. There is no lack of pressure for the first 15 minutes of use so why would the pressure drop after a few minutes of use and cause it to not go into the second stage?

It does have an Energy valve, I may try and contact them to see how to adjust it since there is nothing about it online. I would install a pressure gauge but I dont know how, hydrauilics are not my specialty lol. WoodTick, the main reason I bought this splitter is to replace a painfully slow homemade one, I dont burn wood, I sell it. So buying wood off Craigslist and smoking cheetos and eating weed blunts really dosent help me out lol.
