Hi,

I´m looking for an high-quality Allroundsaw about 4hp.
After reading a lot I thing the Dolmar PS 5100-S would fit fine.

I just wonder why the price of this chainsaw is in US ~400 Dollar.
In Germany the PS 5000 ("just" 13.500 rpm) is ~700Euro=> 925 Dollar! :jawdrop:

Because of the huge price-difference I think about bying the saw in US.
Do you know a good dealer, who sells to Germany?

Greetings,
Dirk

Yea, they like to SKRU you guys at home. I knew quite a few Germans that were here with the German Airforce. Before they went home they bought as many Stihl chainsaws as they could afford or carry to re-sell at home for a huge profit. Figure that one out.

Strange how that works! I was in Russia last year and looked at a new yes that is right new Husky 262 it worked out to be almost 700 Euro and I cant remember how many Ruble that is. They also had new 254xp as well, still listed on the husky web sight over there. The shipping distance is not very far from Sweden?

well 346xp off the shelf price is around 1100e, which is about 1500 dollars....

Europeans pay over-price, US pay under-price. Very obvious when it comes to chainsaws, but I remember the same when I had my Commodore Amiga - twice the price over here (yet it sold better in Europe).

Anyway, the european prices will have to fall soon, there is already competition from cheap asian chainsaws and that will continue of course. Who would pay $800 for a 353 when a "similar product" 1 shelf away costs $150?

I just hope that Husqvarna and Stihl doesn't face this competition by starting factories in China, but, who knows :/

Actually, I don't think professional chainsaws are that expensive over here, but for a small farmer (very few of them left) or a home owner, yes, too expensive perhaps.

People have got used to buying cheap stuff, these days people don't even sharpen their knives - they throw them away when they get dull. Tools have never been cheaper than today, my great grand dad had to work a month to buy an axe, I have to work a day to buy an axe (a good one, like Gränsfors).

Europeans pay over-price, US pay under-price.

Is it possible that the european chainsaw-byer subsidizes the low-priced chainsaw oversea?
A lot of middle and high quality saws are produced (resp. "assembled") in Sweden and Germany.
Is it logical that these products are most expensive in the region of origin?

Has someone a hint where I can get a reasonable priced Dolmar PS 5100-S in US?

Europeans pay over-price, US pay under-price. .....

I'd say that US pay Under-price, and most of the World pay Over-price, not just Europe........

...and it is worse with Husky, Jred and partly Dolmar, than with Stihl......:bang: :bang:

Stihl are the "cheap" brand here, regarding pro saws.

How much an hour does the average Euro make compared to the average american? In MN I'd say the average factory worker makes $14 to a little over $20 an hour. Now if they're making $30 Euros an hour I'd call it even. And then there's taxes, we haven't quite caught up to Europe in giving all of our money to the government but we are sure headed that way. Steve

Workers' Paradise

Well of course you Europeans pay more: look at the Workers' Paradise you're in. All that socialized caring: health plans, pensions for life, longer life spans, subsidized electric to heat homes, and ---drumroll please---those 10 week mandatory vacations every year for all.
And, us poor Americans :rockn: ........what a country :yoyo: :yoyo:

LOL, I live in Europe and my idea of paradise is somewhat different.

social care : a priori a very human and social system ; it's so deng exploited by immigrants, profiteers, hospitals, doctors, pharmaceutical industry that it's becoming no longer financially bearable, only the working class feels the burden of it

pension for life : the pension funds are totally in red and by the time I get to retire, we will have to work until 65 at least, probably 70. Only todays generation will benefit from it.

subsidized homes : only if you are very poor or an immigrant.

holidays : we have indeed 22 official working days off + some public holidays, and this is truly an advantage over the US I believe.

Honestly, If you would ask any worker over here if he were allowed to choose for a private pension fund, social plan, etc or the public one, not a single soul would vote for the public one.

The price difference in saws between europe and the US imo are only due to a different tax system, and marketing.

on average ~15 Euro minus ~30% tax and insurances.
About 10Euro per hour occur on your bank-account.

Full Ack !

meh, we get even less here, atleast we who do manual labor... (my dad earns something like 14e minus tax, and he's 52, done manual labor all his life), office workers might get something like 15e-20e per hour if they are in so called "better jobs".... so, the consensus is that we earn less and pay more :bang:

Canada is closer to being like Europe in social service but it does, not work anymore the countries population is too large now, it will work for a population of 20 million, but not any more our health care is not really free but much cheaper than the U.S but if I was sick I would rather be treated right away than wait 3 months like here. Also the U.S has the best doctors and medical care in the world if you ask me.Sure if you can't afford insurance in the States you might be screwed but I really doubt they would refuse you treatment there must be way. My employer pay's for my health care premiums and I get 5 weeks paid holiday's a year plus all the regular holiday's Thanks giving ext. So I cant really complain! But I went to school found a job and stuck to it! I feel very spoiled after having been on trips to Europe and seeing how the other half live! Canada has many flaws but what country does'nt My favorite place in the world is the State of Montana followed by were I live. Now this thread turned into a exercise on Social studies!

Not much different from the U.S.

Often in the U.S, also, except for military or gov't service

subsidized homes : only if you are very poor or an immigrant.

I'm coming, save me a house:popcorn:

Not too shabby. No wonder worker productivity is so low such as France :jester:

True .

Here's the offer: I'll be in Vienna late October. I can bring a new 346XP (or real Stihl) with me. Make an offer. Seriously.

Im in the Uk and wanna buy a US chainsaw, any dealers with a good price thatll ship to the UK?

I spose the reason why saws are more expensive in europe (particularly UK) is cos everything costs more in europe as the markets are simply rigged that way. Manufacturers like to give us a reet good rogerin because they can! :yoyo:
