Actually, if you really want a tire machine, a local friend has a low hour very clean 2011 Bobcat S850 for sale. Bigger machine but very well cared for, although the price is around 70k I think.
*ouchie* thats alot of greenbacks. Hard to captialize the ROI at that cost. Working to pay for a machine.
I generally haul in log form, and cut and process at the yard. 20' foot logs are my prefered length.

Also need to take into consideration the size of the logs he has down there
You have a trailer and truck doing that.... I don't think the kid is that heavily armored, nor endowed with that kind of liquidity. That being said, just buying things without calculating the cost vs ROI is asking for failure. Why I have been talking him away from 75 or more HP, everything scaled back is cheaper, and can be as efficient in the big picture. Life Cycle Cost Analysis and ROI are not just catchy slogans. Ideally, he has paid for it all, and has started taking all the payments he used to make, and putting half aside for replacements, and have the replacement full cost saved (even earning interest somewhere) when he must purchase again.

I didn't get to where I am today, by making payments to a bank over and again, and again, and again.- plus interest.....

I think you would find that most of the folks using OTT in youtube vids are mostly hobbiest and not trying to make a living with the machine. If you are trying to make money, you don't really have time to set up a camera and look cool.
kid, i think SA thinks u need a big JCB!

Surprisingly I don't have ay pics of any of my trailer loads, but I did find this one of the Chevy I just sold with a Bobcat 773 in a dump trailer and a backhoe attachment in the bed.

Thats the machine we got out of state with nice paint and low hours thats been kind of a pain.

Thats not the way I meant that at all, just a offer to help if you needed a extra body. I'm taking the winter off this year and I think the wife unit is starting to get sick of having me around all the time!

I'm sure you will be successful no matter which way you go.

To be fair I've got less then $1000 invested into my home build 20' 10k trailer.

I'm actually not a big fan of those lol. Cost is too high to justify almost never using the extension.

Im not trying to push him into a 90hp 12,000lb machine. I just want to help him make a educated decision. Everyone is different and he may not like what I like, and thats fine.

My ideal machine would be around 65hp with tracks, high flow and pilot controls. I could care less about brand, but I am partial to the Kubotas.

But that being said, that 773 tire machine in the back of my trailer in that pic has done a lot of work, and I'd take it over nothing any day. It's also very simular is size and power to that s175 he is eyeballing, and I know it would do the job he needs to do

I think the idea of renting one makes the most sense. That's a small price to pay instead of making a huge financial commitment, just to verify it's overloaded capabilities for the future
Its almost impossible to rent them around here, and I would imagine even worse out on the island. Usually long waiting list at the limited rental places.
