My friend had a large oak blow over at his house a couple of days ago when a storm passed through. There was actually one good sized area near there that was affected. Several big trees down.

This tree was about 36" at the base and about 10' - 12' up (out I guess, now) split into 2 sections that were about 28" each. It had smashed through 4 different yards and almost took out the back deck on the 4th house.

They started with about 8 guys at about 8:00 with 2 of them having chainsaws. I showed up about 8:30 with my 394xp.

I was a little late because I had just delivered this for $150 total to two people:

They had most of the small branches already cut up and some of them already to the road. I was going to take pictures of the tree but they already had alot of it cut plus it was raining. Nasty day. We had to move the wood about 40 yards to the front street as it was way too wet to get the trailer to the back.

We loaded the truck and trailer up pretty good and I took it home.l I didn't take pictures of the 1st load in the trailer but this picture shows it. There was some on the ground here already but not much.

Came back with wheelbarrow and started loading up again.

Here's the 2nd load:

Went back for a 3rd and final load but didn't take pictures of it. Only the trailer was loaded completely full with just one layer.

My friend also took 2 truck bed loads to one of the other guys that was helping.

By the time we got done, we were down to me and 2 other guys. I swear one of them was related to Hercules. Geez he could through some wood around.

Here's the last chunk I cut and the root ball (and ME):

I unloaded the 3rd trip at about 4:30 so that's a solid 9 hours with the only breaks being the trips to unload. I didn't even stop for lunch. (got my belly full of chilly now tho)

Full day, but I'm already feeling it. I'm gonna be hurtin in the morning.

Git her done! Looks like you had a great day. That trailer is sweet.

Thanks! I LOVE my trailer. It's a 5x12 tandem. It pulls so smooth. When it's empty, sometimes I have to look in the mirror to make sure it's still there.

I also ordered it with 4 brakes instead of 2, extended tongue so that tool box would fit, spare tire, boxed in with metal from fenders foward, and slide in ramps. Then I put the tool box on, had a muffler shop weld in pipes on the front so I can carry rakes, etc, and also had someone weld in a trailer hitch on the back so I can secure my Rayco 1625 grinder with just one pin.

Actually, it stopped way better than I thought it would. It felt better stopping without trailer brakes hooked up as my Durango does loaded up WITH the trailer brakes connected.

I sell cars as my full time job and just traded for that truck last night. It's a 93 F-250 SuperCab long bed 2wd with the 7.5L V8 with only 134k miles. I gave the guy $1,900 on trade and am seriously thinking about buying for myself.

Three saws were run today. One guy had a 028 and the other had a Husky 570. I haven't heard of the 570 but it ran pretty good and had almost an electric motor whine when reved up.

I cut most of the bigger stuff and went through about 1 1/2 gallons of gas and 1 1/2 quarts of bar oil. 32" bar with a full comp Stihl chain.

The guy with the 028 stuck around longer than the other and I let him use my 394. He's very good with a chainsaw but had never run anything that big. He had a big grin on his face all day.

It's priceless to see the look on someone's face the first time they run a big saw. -------> :D <--------

You couldn't smack that smile off their face.

Looks like you got a "Monster Maul" They are the only way to go to split wood. Ours is about wore out if you can believe that.

Love the tailgate on the trailer.

Love that truck for the price. I'd buy a couple. Only thing better would be a 4x4!

Nice job! That is a sweet setup you have there. So is tomorrow splitting day or do you deserve a break to watch the 500?
Dok

Don't think I'll be swinging that maul around today. I just got up and I can barely move!

WOW. Very impressive indeed. To call that a "good days work" is to be a master of the understatement. Thanks for sharing the pictures, but you certainly now make me feel guilty when I congratulate myself on my definition of a "good days work".

Best regards,

My 441 isnt as big as a 394, but my buddy wouldnt put it down after trying it. He is used to running a ms310 and a poulan pro junker. Good pictures! Thats a heck of a tree to attack! Looks like a lot of fun.

Nice trailer. People look at me funny and poke fun when I tell them I put a set of brakes on my 5x8 single axle trailer but it's got 2' sides all around and when it and my truck are full I do appreciate the extra stopping power. My buddy just bought an early 90s 3/4T dodge with a diesel and I'm jealous. It gets better mileage than my little 4.6L F150 and of course has boat loads of power in comparison .
