I wonder when guys come on here and ask for suggestions on a firewood saw. Most of us seem to try to steer them to way to much saw for them. If a guy just wants to cut 3 to 5 cords a wood a year were always there to help steer him towards the 6 to 8 hundred dollar saw. I limb, bucked up a 32 inch dour fir blowdown yesterday all with my 359 I hadn't used it for a long time and wanted to give it a workout. It maybe wasn't the fastest but it did the job.
I would think for the guy just cutting a few cords of wood a 359 or a 290 would be all he would need. I would think with good care it would last him a long time without the 6 to 8 price tag.

Okay let me have it:cheers:

With the price of oil these days why not spend the money you save buy burning wood on a good saw you will have for years and actually enjoy the whole wood cutting, burning process!! And if you are going to be cutting firewood you will most likely run into bigger jobs at times or help out others with cutting!! It just makes sense to me to buy a good tool the first time then regret it later. I know I have made that mistake when I started running chainsaws.

Which means by your logic everyone should buy a 346xp.

When you consider paying the firewood guy to drop off 5-6 cords of wood, the price of the saw is a bargain. So it's OK for us to suggest a person buy a quality saw since the ROI is already there if he's decided to cut his own wood vs paying somebody to do it for him.

As for Stihl vs Husky, I really don't have a dog in that hunt. I run Stihls, so if somebody asks me to recommend a firewood saw then it's gonna be something I've run, which would be a Stihl.

The right answer is Stihl MS 361. :)

well i just have to say . i own a 345 havnt had a bit of problem with it . runs and cuts great , for the bigger oaks and such i use my 310 with a 20 inch bar . my 023 i use for limbing and such . i just cant understand why you would need a bigger saw for cutting fire wood. (unless your cutting wood out of the red wood forest :jawdrop: ) i burn about 18 pickup truck loads a year .hoot

Before I found this site, I cut all my wood with an ms210, and borrowed an 048 if the tree was huge. After realising how much I was saving burning wood, I could justify buying more "tools" so I bought the 048 and a 361.

While you can turn almost every bolt with an adjustable wrench, a set of wrenches sure is nicer to use. They will both get the job done.

No, My answer would be MS361 because I own one but that is not the point I am trying to say. You dont need a $600-$800 saw to cut 3-4 cords a year by any means but this is a chainsaw site and alot of these guys know saws better than most. so I can see there way of thinking from actual hands on use why they say buy a good saw in the first place. If you spend enough time here searching and asking questions on here you will find the right saw or saws for you. There is a wealth of knowledge here!!

Hell my 82 year old grandfather cuts 20+ facecords a year with a MS 250. Most of it is 14 inches of smaller but he never complains about it not having enough power.

I said basically the same thing last week when someone wanted to know what saw to buy to cut firewood. I have a 372 that is more saw that I need and I cut upwards to 12 cords a year. It is overkill.

Your answer was correct. But after the upcoming AXMEN series, no saw under 70cc will be enough! :chainsaw:

The slow period dealers speak of will change!:greenchainsaw:

Everyones situation is different. Some guys cut some big trees and those are the cases where a big saw is the right answer or if they have the extra money and ask what to buy then why not suggest a better built saw? Then there are those cases where as you said we oversaw a poor guy that doesn't need a pro model but they usually are very content. I find it hard when someone gives a low price and the only prosaw available is 50cc and he "needs a 60cc saw" or next size up and so on.
