Do all of the 346xpNE's with the cat muffler have the green fuel cap?

And, if I buy one with a cat muffler but do not mod it, will it still deliver 3.7 hp per the 2008 Husky catalog?

Finally, is it pretty quick with an 18" bar?

Husqvarna says it will still have 3.7hp, but changing the muffler will give you more torque and hp. You should be at 4hp easy with a muffler mod.

It will do good with an 18" bar. Obviously it is happiest at 12" logs and under but in a pinch it will do the job in bigger wood.

I dont remember what color the fuel cap was, does it matter?

Heck yeah it matters! The cap might clash with my chaps...:biggrinbounce2:

Actually, I figured out when I read your post that if it's a NE, it'll have the cat muffler.

If I switch mufflers out, will that void the warranty?

Some of the early US saws did not have the cat muffler, so there is a small chance you might get one without it.

You can keep your warranty by buying a non cat muffler and saving your cat muffler for when you need to take your saw in for warranty work.

This is where the 5100 kicks the 346's arse:
On the 346XP you need to buy another bar, chain, and sprocket if you want to run 3/8 chain, $60. Plus you need to buy a $38 non cat muffler to keep up with the 5100. Plus the 346 already costs $40 more than the 5100. There is a $140 price savings with the 5100, and both saws have the same performance:monkey:

Thanks for helping me with all that. It looks like you remember my earlier posts about the 5100, and that saw is still in the running. The dealer I am waiting around for (still!) is not. I'm going to head over to the Dolmar site and figure out who else sells that's fairly close and make some calls tomorrow.

Thanks again, Huskyman.

I'm not following...Huskies are now dealer only, and any dealer worth his weight in spam is gonna set-it up exactly the way you want it. Why would you have to pay extry to have the 3/8ths?

Assuming I can get the deal done, I'm picking up my 2153 tomorrow, and I'm not paying a dime for the 3/8ths setup.

Since Husqvarna ships them all with .325 setups it is not a given a dealer will do the swap for free. Mine wont I can tell you. Can dealers order 346 powerheads only, so they dont have to eat the .325 b/c's? Hell a lot of dealers wont even come down from MSRP, let alone go to the trouble of doing a free b/c swap.

Green cap = cat muffler, unless someone changed something out.......

The saw can't be ordered power head only. All Husky's, except the 3120, can be ordered prepacked with with several different bar and chain combos. There are 5 or 6 options for the 346, all in .325.

Removal of the cat certainly wouldn't void the warranty in my store. When filing a warranty claim, the cause of failure has to be determined. Loose carb screws, intake boot leak, wrong fuel, old fuel, ect. You can't just say "It blew up". If any muffler is going to even contribute to a failure, it will be the cat and all of the heat in generates.

Huskyman -
I don't seem to remember where anyone one this site tested a broken in stock E-tech NE346 against a stock 5100. Perhaps you can post some test info to back up your claims???
Just curious.
Al

You misread my post

I meant the 5100 kicks the 346's arse in terms of price. While both saws are about the same performance wise the 5100 is significantly cheaper and can be ordered with 3/8 from the factory

I stand corrected.

I had orignally talked to my Jred dealer about a 16" 3/8ths setup, but changed my mind before I picked it up. Lo and behold, they had called Tilton regarding doing that setup, and Tilton advised them that, if they delivered the saw with a 3/8ths setup, they would have to accept all liability and responsibility if there were to be an accident.

Since I opted to go with the .325 setup ANYWAY, it was no big deal. But yes, if you go Jred at least, you will have to do the conversion yourself.
