What is the advantages and disadvantages of .058 and .063. I own a 365 and 3120 in .404. Basically I want to make an informed choice when purchasing bars & chains. Should I get a 3/8 sprocket for my 3120?

.063 Gauge will not throw chains as easy on a bigger bar & saw combos. They will also last a lot longer (the straps) in cutting for commercial or heavy use. They work just fine, 58 is just a tad lighter.

The biggest advantage of the .063 is the chain runs more true in a straight line[more efficent cutting in the kerf and less wear and tear on the chains chasis.] All replaceable bar tips are .063. I had the opportunity once to see a .050 chain turning at full speed slowed down with a high speed camera. At the tip area the chain was wobbling like crazy, the chain progressed to vibrate on the underside of the bar.

Willard:)
