For those who have run both, which do you like better and why. A dealer I have dealt with before has both a nos 2171 and a nos 2165. I was thinking about getting the 2171 just because they are no longer produced and just wondered how those who have used both would compare the 2171 to the 2172.

The 371 and 372 run the same

The only difference besides the name is the chain adjuster is in the crankcase on the 371 and in the cover on the 372.

Also inside the oil tank behind the bar bolts there are extra braces in a 372.

The top cooling fin is shorter on the front on the original 371 cylinder but was also this way on the very first 372's.

The top cover is shaped slightly different between the two that most people would not notice

Parden me for talking about the Husky and not the Johnnie but I'me sure all the same things apply?

The 2171 is the normal 372 xp cylinder. The 2172 is the new strato x torq 372. I don't know how they would compare since I haven't run the new x torq version but the old version seems to be a touch lighter and almost as strong.

Well the X-torq Husky is different from the regular 372 in the Cylinder/piston, intake boot, carb, and air filter adapter. The other parts are the same.

The closest Jonesered dealer is 50 miles away from me. I've seen a couple different older ones and that's all.

The differences you described would be the 2071 to 2171 transition.

a buddy, and customer of mine has a 2171 and a 2172 and he the said the 2172 definately has more power and is more fuel efficient... he love his 2172

Thanks for the info. I have a 365xt that is now probably stronger than a stock 2172 thanks to a member who is not for hire. I have been able to run a couple of 2171s but they both had 75cc top ends on them. The 2171 is just one of those saws that I want but definitely don't need.

Digging up an old thread...

I'm going to look at a 2171 today.

To be clear:

2071=371xp
2171=372xp
2172=372xp x-torque

More or less?

I've had great results from the 372XT's. Overall stock for stock I would go with the new XT, or 2172 if you will. The motivational factor is going to be the price difference, if any. If the 2171 is on a good sale, I'd go that way.

I was going to look at 3 saws. A 372xp, 2171 and 394xp. He wanted 900 for all 3. But now say's he will sell the 394 for 325. And wants to keep the other 2...

394's are pretty awesome - if you have a use for one.

I don't really have a use for one. I was looking to buy the 3 and resell. Not sure I want to be stuck with a 394.
