Text from the SB-

"We have had breakdowns in crankshaft bearings for some time. The assembly process is now
corrected to prevent this happening. At the same time, we are replacing the crankcase screws with
the same one used as the 357XP cylinder screw, 725 53 33-55, in a black oxide fi nish. The
503 20 08-02 screw has a coating that has too low friction and loses torque. This may also have
caused the oil leak. When repairing/replacing the crankcase gasket, make sure to replace this
screw with a 725 53 33-55 screw."

Yeah, that's the SB. Anything made since Feb should have the new screws. I suppose anyone could update to the new screws if they wanted to. Just have to pop the flywheel to get at some of them.

Where is your shop located in Gettysburg? I plan to FINALLY make it out there to tour the battlefield this fall. Might be fun to stop in and talk shop for a little while.

How many people had issues with their saws before the Internet? Or at the least pee'd their pants a little when a little hiccup happened? LOL

Gettysburg is an incredible place. I visited the battlefield when I was a teenager and I can still visualize some of the buildings, emplacements, and graves.

Well got a beloved 562 in the shop today, customer report said hard/no start hot. Diagnostic software showed nothing abnormal, 21 hours on the saw, no error codes. Tank vent checked out ok, compression good, vacuum/pressure tested cyl and that also passed. Needle valve had a very slow leak to it. Upon running it I noticed an abnormal amount of bar oil coming from the front of the saw, pulled the muffler off again and saw it oozing out the crankcase split! So after a short amount of time on the phone with warranty auth. I've got a new carb, crankcase gasket and 357xp case screws on the way. Fortunately this is the first AT we've had problems with. I have not split the case yet, although I did notice a service bulletin for crank bearing problems, has anyone else seen this?

I've had quite a few of the 562s come in with leaking crankcases, although I have not seen any bearing failures. They are working on the hot start problem. I have some coils that they are testing to try to fix it. It is a very small percentage doing it though. FYI, there is also a new fuel line if you have had some of these saws shut off in a cut or while bore cutting due to the fuel line pinching.

I was complaining that my 562 was bogging down in a cut today to my climber. He jas a new saw than mine and it is doing the same thing. Then he told me of 3 others. My 455 Rancher finished the job. Gonna clean it, service it, then try it again.

Well just about got the saw buttoned up today. Just waiting on a crank seal which should arrive tomorrow and I can do some cutting with it to see how she runs. Unfortunately were stuck with the saw for now, the owner got cold feet and traded up on a 372. Might have to talk to the boss and see about picking it up for myself. For those of you that have split the case on these before, any trouble getting the flywheel side bearing back in the case? Took two rounds of heating it up to finally get it to sit right.

It is. I give regular tours to visitors from out of town/state/country. I'm still learning.

If this is turning into a GTG, keep me informed.
