...of 5 cube chainsaws?

With the 576AT and now the 441M-Tronic, are we in a golden era of 70cc chainsaws? The 440, 460 and 441 are all available from Stihl. The 372XP xt, 576 and 570 are all available from Husqvarna, Jonsered has the 2172, Dolmar still sells the 7900 and 7300, and there are still a few 681s floating around.

The quality is solid.
The power is better than ever.
The fuel consumption is better than ever.
The AV is better than ever.
The weight is reasonable.
The filtration is better than ever across the board.

Will we look back on this as the good ole' days?

In one sense it really is, because the old models and the new models are kind of overlapping at the moment and we have the choice of going with either of them.

I'd cross off the Husky 570 though. Really not too impressive and heavy besides.

In it's place I'd put the 365XT and Jonny 2166, which are the same displacement as the 372/2172. They differ in porting, and it's a difference that can be "altered" rather easily, and no I'm not going to elaborate. :msp_tongue:

So, yeah this could be the golden era. And it's going to be getting better too. :smile2:

I was thinking the same thing Spike, it could be! I agree with having more than one choice, and hopfully they keep it that way. You should be able to choose flippy cap's or regular cap's. Should be a choice. And 6 cube saw's should have a manual oiler overide option too.

I would guess..

Obviously some very impressive improvements with strato charging and auto carb adjustments..but..it still ain't fuel injection and oil injection. And we are not very far away from some pretty exotic and fantastically light and strong synthetic materials for construction, nanotube tech, etc...along with the fine ceramics. As in perhaps stock 20k RPM saws that have double or better heat dissipation (combined with lesser heat generation) and a lot better mileage. Or perhaps a new shot at non piston engines again, wankels or turbines? And at the lower end, my opinion, we just crossed the threshold with battery electric saws now getting into the actual useful tool stage, hmm, roughly similar to about 15 or so, 18 years ago with cordless drills, when they got good enough to use and you started seeing them more and more all over. Lithium Ion batteries have been a quite useful modernization for all sorts of portable "things".

So, I would say this era is the serious transition from old tech to really advanced modern tech. Just entering it now. The door has opened, one step in...

And now I can't wait until all these spiffy new saws you guys are getting are the fifty buck craigslist specials..so I can keep upgrading..bwahahahaha!

If we are not..its gonna have to get A LOT BETTER! Seems some of the new models are similar or maybe just a tad more weight. Maybe its just a step towards lighter AND more power though.

I'm all for the 441 M-Tronics and the newer 661 thats coming out. I have no use for any older saws as they represent something that is less efficient, with little if anything else to offer by way of a benefit. So in my opinion, yes, we are in it and going forward.

My opinion,

lol....

Nah d00d I'm good I just didn't know what he wanted everyone to get out of his post.

Not that I myself ponder if everyone is wondering what I went them to get out of my posts - if such thoughts are going on among others I feel bad for them because my posts are less than worthless.
