Hey guys got a parts saw to re finish and was wondering what's the best paint to use for the clutch covers and stuff like that. Also the best way to apply it would help alot.

I use Endura or I just powder coat them.
About anything that's the correct color, then a coat or two of PPG QuickClear to make it fuel resistant.

Imron is pretty durable, though it might cost about the same as a new saw. :hmm3grin2orange:

To safely apply it you need a lot of safety equipment that will cost more than 3 saws...LOL
A great product though, we use it a lot on industrial equipment, heavy earth moving machines and a anything that is exposed to the elements most of the time. Two part urethanes are about the best paints to use on chainsaws, only thing better in paints would be epoxies but that stuff is even nastier.
For the rattle can crowd.
So far, Valspar Tractor and Impliment from my local Tractor Supply has been good. Provided you can live with what few color choices you have.

From a price point I'll second the Valspar. I did 3 Huskys with it. No rattlecan, though. I airbrushed it with hardener. Took multiple coats, but it has been fine.

I recommend the Valspar from TSC I did my current 371 That was NASTY before the rebuild and it looks great I have been cutting with it this year and it is holding up fine. (and it had a leaky vent so every time I would fill up it would leak premix all over the handle. no paint has come off.) I did an 044 with it too and held up well till I sold it to a Mitch on here (was that you?)

Yeah thats me, Paints holding up real well not many if any scratches or chips. Also It has ALOT of power IMHO

You used valspar on the plastic tank handle.. Wow looks good, thats spray can or special implement paint through a sprayer?

I did a truck frame and some equipment implements with Valspar, and I thought they turned out decent. Cant beat it for the price, but I have been most fond of Sherwin-Williams enamel for finish work. I restored a Honda
ATC200X a few years ago, and the tank came out incredible. I had to cut and buff a wee bit, but the overall job was fantastic. It isnt cheap (sky is the limit) but get a decent discount with my local guys.

I've heard mixed reviews. Valspar Ford Grey is supposed to be a pretty close match, something else you may consider.

It would be about the worst choice there is, its overpriced and takes way too many coats to cover any chips up let alone a complete paint job. It just melts if exposed to gasoline.
