What's the difference between those models and the MS290 and MS310? in terms of price and performance?

The 290/310/390 series gets a plastic rather than magnesium crankcase; has inferior anti-vibe and slower acceleration; offers less power per pound; has a horizontally-split crankcase, etc. A quick search will reveal even more info, as it has been asked dozens of times before and covered in some depth.

The 290/310/390 series are good, solid homeowner/ranch saws. In that role, they'll last a long time and provide good service, as they are proven and reliable designs.

The 290/310 range are "occasional use" saws; the 361 is a full professional saw. If you are just using it a a weekend warrior, the 290/310 work fine. If you have an 034, keep it.. or fix it if it's broken. Even $200 into fixing an old (but decent shape) 034 will make a better saw than a 290/310.

The 310 is probably the closest match to the performance of your 034. maybe 80%??

The 290/310 are about $150-200 cheaper than a similarly equipped 361. performance - a lot less, but for many uses it doesn't matter.
