I use the 2-n-1 just like Blacker. It's worked great for me. Not as pretty as it was when it was new though. Being able to keep the saw close to the saddle while moving in the tree is a very good thing.
 
i use the bungee cord lanyard as well. its good sometimes to be able to thro the saw to one side & have both hands ready to use immediately - this can become expensive if the saw is not tied to you -. With crane jobs & when felling out large sections i always unclip the saw so i dont get pulled out of the tree with it if it gets stuck. they are meant to have weak points on them for this reason but i dont want to test them out!

Do it your way. Why? Because today is your day.

I still use a short (6-8") webbing loop on the saw and keep the 'biner (Petzl Spinball, discontinued I think) on the saddle, but different strokes for different folks.
