face cords and full cords are the standard. if i was to buy any wood, it wouldn't be in any other term.
 
128 cubic square feet and you are good to go. Doesn't matter how it is stacked.

I always measure before leaving. If I give them a little extra, good for them. If short (hasn't ever happened), I act like the terminator and tell them "I will be back".:laugh: :D
 
face cord is 4 x 8 ft by whatever length. generally assumed to be 16 but not really. could be a face cord of 20 inch, face cord of 24 inch, etc. a raditional term but not a legal nor standardized one.

Most of the CL ads here list 'oak at 125/cord' when they actually selling 4 x 8 x 16 inches for 125, i.e. 1/3 cord....... most buyers think a cord is that. and they still get shorted..... or sold 4x8 cris-cross stacked.
 
Wood sales

I tend to throw in a little extra and everybody seems to be happy so far. A lot of what I cut is shorter than 16" so I make up for it by making longer ricks.
