How far is the fall? 2 feet applies 3 time the exceleration of 1 foot.

Maybe someone should get Joe here to try to explain the force of an excelerating mass. I've tried to understand it, but just have to figger I'll only get the gist.

I was watching some cabel show where they were interveiwing a retired test piolet. He was the firs man to enter the stratosphere. He did it in a weather ballon then did a HALO dive for like 10 min or something.

By the time he opened his shute, he had exceeded the speed of sound:eek:
 
Some manufacturers publish both minimum tensile strengths and average breaking strengths. The minimum equates to a guaranteed test rating the average tensiles are usually about 10% higher.
JPS, The falling body above the speed of sound doesn't sound right. There is a point when air resistance cancels the acceleration due to gravity. Granted the air up there is pretty thin but I think maximum velocity would be considerably lower. Maybe Jumper can enlighten us.
