Two ways that I would do it come to mind. Fast way and slow way. Slow way is to get some Tordon sp. and spray the stump. Wait for about a year and it will be dead and rotted, and come apart like the economy under Bush. Fast way is to take that pipe, assuming that it goes down into the ground, and get you some Pyrodex (fake black powder) and pour about 1/4 to 1/2 of a jug into the pipe and run as much cannon fuse down into the bottom as needed with about a foot sticking out of the top. then ram a lot of news paper down on top of it and then wedge in a piece of wood VERY tight, might even duct tape the hell out of it. Light the fuse and get behind something solid. Should take care of the problem. JR

I don't run Pyrodex in my flintlock anymore, but it is a hell of a lot of fun to use to blow up ant mounds!

I somehow doubt his fence would fare to well with the fast method, but I like it!!!

Thought that's what the Truck/Tractor and chain were for.

Wish I had a tractor! Used to use my dad's winch when I lived in Canada.

None of these were more than about 8" trees, but I still have the pecan stump from the wood in my avatar, and will soon have a stump from a pine that is pushing 3 feet. Might use the truck then.

That pine will be my first milling job. It's on an old fence line, so I hope I don't have any surprises like the OP!

good luck with that.

At the very least you may find fencing staples.

When I first moved to TN from NC, I got a job working at a small sawmill. I tailed the main saw and edged...I had just reached out to grab a slab and the 52" saw hit a horseshoe that had been hung in the tree many, many years before. It was like a bomb went off...pieces of the saw blade went through the roof. Talk about poopy pants.

That would do it! Damn.

Looks like you need a longer bar.:)

My socialist method would be to leave it as is and plant a pretty viney plant there to hide it. Isn't that a utility pole there? And if you pull it out, isn't there a chance of loosening up the pole?

Plant a pretty flowery vine.

You can get carbide chain on ebay, not that expensive either, 30-40 bucks.
Is that the same as rescue chain, ? IDK

I believe carbide is just a harder metal in the cutter, a rescue chain has a whole different cutter design. It has a bullet like piece directly in front of the cutter. We call them bullet chains.

Works great on light metal and roofing, painfully slow i trees.

Im liking the black powder solution, got plenty a my dads. But aside from the fence the power transformer directly above it might not fare too well either.

No a transformer is probably not a good thing to mess with, I think they frown on that.
I still like the sawzall idea. You can get blades a foot long or so. Little bit safer too, but not much fun.lol

:givebeer:

I have got alot going on right now, wife is sick, wife's grandmother is dying, sister is getting married, and 9 mo. old twins to care for. I think beating the stump with an ax and chainsaw although slow is good stress relief. :givebeer:

Wow, +10, and the neighbors stumps, and.......................

How about a saw Zaw and a few beers.....I bet in less than a couple hours
thing would be toast.....with a few extra blades of course....

I think I am going to try to take the chainsaw cut from the base at a slightly downward angle with out hitting the fence pole. Then use a prybar and an ax to split it up and pry out the chunks and then sawsall the pole. It probably wont work as easy as it does in my head, but I think everything looks good on paper.

HA HA, No,nothing is as easy as its supposed to be.:cheers:

Stay safe:)

I estimate how long it will take me to do a job, and multiply it by about 3-17 weeks.

Yup, sounds about right, especially when it has anything to do with your home.
I usually figure everything up, add about 40 % and then double the grand total. Usually comes out close.
And double the time line, sometimes thats not even enough.:)
