Hey Guys,

i went up to my property today to cut up some wood on the ground and removed some small trees to get ready for my buddy who is going to put a large oak on the ground for me.

I'm wanting to make some chunks for smoking on the egg and I was wondering exactly what I have.

I believe the 2 pcs on the left are hickory and the 2 on the right are oak.

Please tell me if I'm wrong. THX in advance

From an Ohio point of veiw,,,,No....

From your location I really can't say...

Trees vary quite a bit from one region to another. My father in law in Florida has some hickories that look NOTHING like those in Ohio.

My buddies and I have a standing joke around here. If your not sure what it is.... It must be Ironwood!:)

Thanks for the replies guys.

here are the split pictures, hope this helps

I know that without having a leaf, it's hard to identify in winter by the bark alone unless you've been doing it for years.
