Looks like yet another Hickory. I don't know which one.
It's just different enough to cause me to question. It's noticeably softer as well.

Almost looks like it could be a poplar but just by looking at the bark I'd say mockernut or pignut. Looks like it's been dead a while? Or are those sapsucker versus woodpecker holes?
ironwood seems to be a generic term that gets applied to different trees by region
It doesn't have the bark I've seen basswood have.

Looks like Oak to me?
Same to me, Red Oak or Pin Oak
Yeah that looks like oak!
I was thinking red oak, I just wasn't sure. It's not pin oak as it doesn't have the branch structure. I moved quite a few of them when I ran a tree spade and they were one of the more difficult to get tied up.

That looks the same as the stuff I had in my last load load logs. Wasn't sure myself, guys on here said basswood as well. Saw goes right through it, pretty light and soft. Pretty furry cuts after the saw goes through it.
