Almost looks like it could be a poplar but just by looking at the bark I'd say mockernut or pignut. Looks like it's been dead a while? Or are those sapsucker versus woodpecker holes?
 
I was thinking red oak, I just wasn't sure. It's not pin oak as it doesn't have the branch structure. I moved quite a few of them when I ran a tree spade and they were one of the more difficult to get tied up.

It is looking like a sweet honey hole. Here's what I've brought home tonite and so far....
