Is there anyway to quiet a Homelite XL-12?

the mufflers are probably available? it is an old ass saw though.

You got your name right if you like manual oilers lol. Haven't used one in 30+ years and my thumb is still mad at me. (my 084 has an oil booster but you just hold it down when exter oil (pronounced oral...) is needed)

Might be able to pick up a used muffler from of a small gas engine repair guy modify an existing muffler instead of fabricating a whole. Ear plugs are sold much cheaper.

The white Pioneer Holidays with the stack muffler are no slouch in the decibel department either.The Holiday looks like Homelite or vice versa.I wonder who copied who but I guess its the like chicken and the egg which came first.

I have a nice Homelite XL-12 that runs good, but is really loud. Probably not as loud as a YAZ, but close. I was looking for a way to make it a bit less noisey, but not hurt, or ruin it.

Foam ear plugs and over the ear muffs.

There are lots of used mufflers kicking around as many of these later saws are laid up or junked when the later electronic modules went bad. Lots of those saws are being trashed so picking up a parts saw is not hard to find.

I started up a Poulan 306A this afternoon and with the cast "muffler" it's not much quieter than the stack muffler. Now I have ringing in my ear that will probably last all day...

I think that I will look for a muffler for the Homelite. Had to take down a Digger Pine today, what a mess of pitch all over everything, nasty trees.

If you try and mess with the muffler by adding baffles or noise suppressors, you will rob power from the saw. As others have suggested, use PPE.
